waa.. left 2 more weeks aa.. sweat.gif

hows prep everyone? i finished all my exam kit already now want to read text book a bit and do those bloody 2011 past years cry.gif

did anyone read the syllabus change for P7? well its not really a syllabus change, but they did change financial statement risks into "risks of material misstatement on financial statement" sth like that la..

and then got highlight on not confusing business risk with audit risk, and then it says in audit risk, focus more on inherent and control risk, if write about detection risk get no marks.

also got many mentions on group audit la (ISA 600)

who knows? last seating article talk about isa 450 and isa 260 265, a lot of that came out man.

but this time, p5 no article right? however, i have a good feeling its gonna be EVA.

guys...how do you know if ACCA is suitable for you??
*
u coming from CAT?

Iv been observing a trend where when students were still doing CAT, and everybody were like stars of the show.

scoring upto 90% ++, and they think they can aboslutely make it thru ACCA.

turns out ACCA was too cruel. And those colleagues of mine were just too ambitious and over-confident.

I've got many many friends who were top scorers during CAT, but when it comes to ACCA, it seems like they will be doing it forever.

ACCA is only for the strong-willed. I'd be lenient if it was F papers, but P papers is a whole different level.

You have to actually plan on practical stuff like how many papers wanna take per sem, how long is the gap between your first and second (and maybe third!) papers, how many hours will you study per day etc.

The safest route I'd suggest would be to take degree first, and that will provide you exemption for F papers, where you are left with just 5 P papers.

hey, at least you've got your degree. you can always take papers while working.

Sorry noob here. I tried to search about the question below but end up with no answer.

Can we pay ACCA by using Maybank Visa Debit Card?
*
can. as long as has designated visa, or mastercard, or american express, or maybe others too,

can always make payment. no problem.

using mb visa here, and never had any problems. however!

you will have to contact mb, because they limit your card expense, particularly when you're making an overseas payment.

lemme share u one thing about p2.

u dun go class also nevermind. can pass. I got mine 58 last time, no class. Just 4 days study, like seriously. but 2nd seating la tongue.gif

the secret is, standards. polish all your standards. answer all IAS IFRS questions especially the current issues one.

calculation? console? just get the numbers on paper and finish it. no point squeezing your head too hard on numbers you KNOW will never balance anyways.

Hi, I am unable to take the exam in dec 2012 due to some personal reason. Meanwhile, I am considering to take either p1 or p3 this half year time and to sit for the exam in jun 2013/ dec2013 so that I won't leave my 1/2 yr time idle.

Would like to seek advice from those who have taken these 2 papers b4, which paper is a better option, considering factors like the no of changes in syllabus, course content retention rate, level of difficulty etc.

Thanks in advance!
*
hi there.

in general terms, I'd vote for p3 first.

I believe P1 is quite a simple syllabus to study on, talks about the same thing over n over again like seriously,

corporate governance, ethics, which brings back to basic stuff like fundamental principles, risk, etc.

P3 has a lot of stuff to study. u gotta have an in depth knowledge of strategies, risks, stakeholders etc,

definitely so many matrices, maps, formulas to remember.

Hey guys, just want to ask a noob question how many max papers can i sit in a semester? currently I am able to take p1 in Sunway but is now full for the other papers, I would like to consider taking P2 and P3 in other institution..kindly advice? Million thank yous
*
IMHO, u can take p1 in sunway and due to some sunway policies, take other p papers secretly somewhere else..

if i were u, why even bother masuk sunway? enroll in some place else lah. becoz u can only do P1 in sunway, other papers cannot..

better do all 3 some place else.. no hassle..

I myself went through that already. felt the humiliation, the sadness, miserable and torn apart but after a week it will fade off, trust me.

from your case, it seems you have advantage for P4 obviously. But what you want to do in the end isn't kinda relevant with P4.

But in anyway, whats important is of course securing a pass first. seeing that you sound like a straight sitter doesn't seem like you'll be facing problems smile.gif be it P4 or even P7.

I asked an interviewer of an audit firm, regarding my concerns on auditing knowledge, if I had to go back to the books to really perform in audit. He told me, "on your first day we only expect a good character from you, willingness to learn and a sense of responsibility. Technical knowledge is important, although, not really what we expect to see on your very first day."

Point being, maybe, technical skill and experience is what you will simply pick up during work. not important to know A-Z when you are just starting.

My vote is for P4. Securing a pass is a priority thumbup.gif

on tutor, I dunno about P4 but P7 is definitely a paper which you can actually score without classes or tutor etc. it needs hard work tho sweat.gif

Thanks mate.

Oh yes at the moment securing a pass and becoming an affiliate is top priority for me.  sweat.gif
What crossed my mind is the working environment in audit firm is less related to P4, then i would need to spend more time to study compared to P7.

Did you study any of these papers on your own?
*
no prob. do seek info from those who are already working in audit firm nod.gif they can give better input than me nod.gif

dun worry too much about P7 or P4. when you start work, just assume you start fresh. well yes P7 does have its advantage but as if you can't remember those stuff from F8 sweat.gif you already got the basics, what I know is its all about learning as you work rclxm9.gif

i studied for P7 and P5 and also P2 on my own after failing them on first attempt. Couldn't afford to bother going for 2nd time class sweat.gif tired ady.. hahah.. in fact self-study can give more focus.

P4 no coz I scared of P4 sweat.gif never considered taking it at all.

I would like to ask what you guys think if I self study p5 on my own? Cause all the timetable clashes with my other classes in a few different unis and I guess I don't have much of a choice..Is it possible?
*
possible nod.gif

Did that for last seating and passed, although just marginal pass sweat.gif

becoz, you can always afford to go for class study p5, but when exam questions come out you will be surprised that no amount of class could prepare you for the randomness of P5.

What could help you is, when you self-study, do a lots and lots of reading. Get the initiative and motivation to really understand ALL the topics.

Exam kit and textbook are your friends. I've done my P5 exam kit for 6 times and still, only 10% of it came out for last seating sweat.gif

in the end, you want to make sure to try your very best to answer ALL questions. thts because you can never be absolutely sure of a definite answer. Any kind of answer counts, so get it on paper first.

IRC(Intensive Revision Class) might be different tho. Whatever it is, P5 without class is definitely doable.

Goodluck.

Bro thanks for reply.

What do you mean irc might be different? You self-study without attending any p5 class before? Was it your first attempt?
*
Firstly, yes I went to class last year. I failed first seating with only 40 marks sweat.gif I can say for sure that not even any slightest amount of class I went to last year had any benefit for me when I sat for the exam, being last year and last june. Just so you know, I got 52 this time sweat.gif so I only passed on my 2nd attempt.

Have you heard of short crash course tuition courses called IRC? I meant it cud be different becoz I've never been to one sweat.gif so I can't say for IRC classes. It might be good, might be the same, point is maybe u shud ask people who went. nod.gif For normal everyday classes, at least for me, I find it boring and dull. I always had to keep myself from sleeping in class. I don't get anything from class seriously rclxub.gif

At least for P5, I've always known that no amount of class can prepare me for the actual exam coz P5 is that unpredictable, seriously. The only thing I could do was, make sure I've read everything in the textbook, page by page. That is first and most basic thing I did. Because P5 is so damn random they can just ask you anything! Most of the time, you will have to rely on your logic. And logic, is not taught in my class nod.gif

My self-made package revision course includes: BPP textbook + Exam Kit (5 times) + past year questions not in exam kit(becoz almost all q from exam kit are actually past years except for latest papers). All in 5 weeks before exams in 15 hours per day alternating 3 days each for both P7 and P5. But sadly not much of what I did was actually tested, but still it gives me an idea on how to form a logical and professional answer.

But I think the major contributor of my pass this time is the past years which i did for dec 2011. They kinda repeated the question on what makes a quality information. Well, in the text book, the only info you have is A.C.C.U.R.A.T.E.(look it up nod.gif) which seem pretty trivial and one might not think its important. In fact, questions wont straight out ask you the traits of quality info, but rather put you in the position of an accountant and comment on the improvements which can be made for a set of information that is being presented. A weak candidate will simply panic becoz he never encountered that kind of question, but a candidate should always be calm and think it through, within the time limit of course. MOST OF THE TIME, you might have to bullshit your way sweat.gif but make it logical and acceptable.

P5 is actually like that. The answers ARE in the text book but you have to somehow manipulate what you read in textbook to make it a professional answer. LOL if that made any sense!

Point being, classes.. depend on you as well. Maybe you are the type who prefer 1 to 1 tutoring with a lecturer. I, prefer to be all alone and focused on just one thing for a long period of time. I hate assignments and going to class itself, transport + fuel, is a hassle. By not going to class, I achieved a lot more time for myself, save on fuel, save on tuition fees, save the frustration for assignments, get more focus, and most importantly, is i get to relax while doing it my way.

yeap. . . Do everything it takes man thumbup.gif

theres no such thing as a limit except for the ones we put on ourselves nod.gif

and seriously, answer all questions.

thats why i dont go class already. becoz if go class take so much time and i can never prepare even 3 weeks before exam date sweat.gif so I saved the hassle and just quit class!  rclxm9.gif  *sound like budak jahat kuat ponteng sweat.gif*
