If you have data plan, enable location services and data when locating. Erm... Don't use M9/X5/SYGIC to lock into position. These apps lock a lot slower. Get GPS Status from market and use it to lock. After you get GPS lock, launch the GPS Software you wanna use and there you go, you got locked. The first lock usually takes some time but after you frequently lock in from certain places, it will tend to remember and make you lock a lot faster next time you need your GPS. For me, my galaxy W can lock around the area i stay, within 4~5km range within 15seconds. Sometimes even more amazingly just merely 7seconds. I do give it to lock when I'm free, or just for fun. I do try to lock the other day, in Pudu which I rarely be there. It took a while longer but with data on (AGPS), I can still lock in 20++second, at the door of a shop+heavy rain outside. But this only happens after the DXLC build update. DXLA (the previous build) is a lot slower. I noticed this, but whether it's one of the problem Samsung get rid of in this update, I got no idea (means I don't know whether it's just me or many other SGW users noticed this too).

Cowithgun's ROM all based on malaysia version. Confirm got chinese. But I think the other version, forgot which country rom also got chinese. I forgot where's that though

I'm not using it. Can't give any comments.
Currently available rom (what I know) includes Kezra, Cow's (bionic/bionic2/etc etc) and CM9 (This one is ICS).
Cow's version done a lot of tuning for maximized speed and increased amount of RAM. Seems to be quite a good one but it's still Gingerbread. Some problem have problem using it though, not consistent feedback. I can't say much.
Kezra I got no idea at all.
CM9, someone here who used it says it's fast, even faster than cow's rom (smoother perhaps) but mind you, there're a list of hardware not functioning thus it's still a alpha release. The most important is... the camera is not working. That's what stopping me to go for it. This is not just a problem with Galaxy W ICS custom rom. Many other models are also having this problem. It's the lack of driver that makes those hardware can't be used. I know not much too.

On wifi and on data cannot compare. Date eats triple the battery compared to wifi based on my observation. Actually on data also can tahan whole day. Just depends whether your hand itchy or not else it can last more than a day. I on wifi at home, data when go out, roughly can sustain for a day or more few hours with minor surfing, fbing, little gaming. If on data keep surfing and low signal, 8 hours can finish...

Get stylus. Normally it comes with the plug into 3.5mm jack.

No problem locking. Have you rooted? If yes, get faster fix from market, choose Malaysia and it will change the file for you. That doesn't mean anything if you don't use agps

Added on April 26, 2012, 12:20 amOh yeah... I finally found the folder that eats my USB storage memory... Deleted it and now I gained 400mb... Even though view from "details" it says only 80mb but after delete, I get 400MB. .weird but nice... I google searched using the folder name and it seems to be created by friendcaster @@ not sure what's the problem

Those except viber sounds like what my old nokia can do, excluding the gaming part too
If budget 1k, you can choose from Galaxy W, HTC One V, Huawei Honor, and quite a few models from Sony(those lower end, something like Xperia mini, ray, neo etc etc). All these with with 8255/8255T Snapdragon chipset with Adreno 205, should be capable of doing what you asked for, all of them. All got wifi, got 3G (take note at front camera, some doesn't have it) etc etc. Viber, whatsapp can be supported by nearly all android devices, even in those with 600MHz proc speed. Battery might be a concern for you since you said you're going to use data. Based on technical spec, honor has the largest battery 1930mAH (+largest screen, 4" +highest resolution camera 8megapixel) but you better do research first, it comes down to whether you like the brand and how those parts perform. Go google la~ see how the screen and camera compare to those on other listed models

Just my opinion:
If you're not the type that will mess with you phone and know how to mess with your phone to make it run better, get HTC (considering just HTC and Samsung). HTC seems to provide better experience, smoother etc etc on stock, untouched while samsung tends to lag quite a bit(my samsung, not other samsung ) but if you know how to fiddle with samsung, it can gives better experience, smooth enough. It's like iPhone and Android. If you like just the way you can use an iphone, get iphone. If you want to customise the phone to suits you, get android. Simple enough?

Edit: Oh... and HTC should take more bumps than equivalent samsung did. Not saying that samsung built is bad but htc got quite some models dressed in unibody (aluminium/metal/poly/etc etc) which should be more durable than samsung. Seriously, i don't mean samsung is bad seeing how and S2 can sustain from a drop of shoulder height (the video they compared against ip4)
