Maybe we can get this extra scene in the director's cut BD.

This anime had potential.. I mean, great soundtracks, awesome animation, interesting character, etc.. It is unfortunate that the last few episodes, especially the ending, kinda ruined everything. They suck. Bad.

I had a few expectations that there'll be some "drama" close to the end, but dammit, it ended dry and boring as hell.

Didn't enjoy the romance part.. I swear I prayed Houtaro to not blush at every tease.. sheesh. If I wanna some lovey-dovey, I'd go for other shits instead and not this.

Aaand my mystery was lost half-way, I don't know where the fug it went.

On the other hand, I like Fuku-chan... He reminds me of myself unfortunately....

6/10. i haz a disappoint.

Last thing I'd expect is a mod "refuting" my opinion. lol, Even that sounds ridiculous when I put it. It's like flaming me for saying i don't like blue shirts.

So lemme sum up... I love the deep part - the mystery part - i get to crack a few of em so it's awesome.. Then comes the kanya fair, houtaroxeru episodes(i miss satoshi a lot here) and it got worse...

I had my expectations...
(kudos to satoshi btw for giving me a different view abt expectation. biggrin.gif)

Depends on how you see it. Hyouka was misleading in a way that it made people thought that the show was about mystery. It's not. It's actually a slice of life that uses mystery to flesh out it's characters. Honestly all the mystery was quite lame, except for the origin of Hyouka. But it's why the mystery happen that makes it good. Anguish, jealousy, anger, manipulation, timidness, everything is based upon a logical human flaw. And KyoAni's way of using subtleness to show these works. Most scenes are brilliantly thought of, and you might miss some clues that alludes to a bigger picture the first time you watch it.

The last arc meanwhile was to expand the characters of both Oreki and Eru, and to hint on their everyday relationship that is not mentioned in the previous chapters (or episodes). It was also to show how both have grown, Eru, from an eccentric, curious, sheltered single child grew up to be a mature girl that understood her future, and Oreki who wants to maintain a grey coloured life, finally embraced a rose coloured one. Every interactions they made, people they met, actions they have taken leads to this end

Talking about the end, it was nicely done, staying true to the novel. They could have used an anime exclusive end that would have been a better choice in terms of the viewers, but that would actually disrespectful the the characters and their development, so they stuck with what Honobu has written. Throughout the show, it was shown that Oreki would digest all information that is given to him which will lead him to a solution befitting the problem (or mystery) that he has. In that last scene, the solution Oreki had from the information that Eru was giving him was to stay by her side, but it conflicted with his old lifestyle, hence why he never said it out loud. But he knew that it was the best solution for the both of their future. Eru ending the episode with "It's already spring" was quite subtle, and yet implied heavily of their future development. Their relationship is just starting. That rose coloured scene, the wind that suddenly blew and showed Oreki the beauty of the place, and that knowing smile at the end for me speaks volumes and is worth much more than an uttered line.

I would have loved it even more if it is a mixture of slice-of-life.. In fact, I should've if it weren't for ending that I don't see fit.

Hyouka suddenly sounded so melodramatic the way you put it ; an acceptable kinda of exaggeration.. I see this coming but not bad, bro.

To label "mystery' as "lame" in the same sentence is an utter insult to Hyouka, duuuude. The execution of the mystery+detective work deserved a round of applause regardless of it being subtle and insignificant to the characters, whichhhhhhhh leads to the main reason why I picked this up.. and to see it faded away into oblivion like that was just "hnnnnggg" ><..

Saved the best for the last right? Didn't seem that way. I don't mind the last arc being a dedication to the characters and their final resolution after knowing each other. But oh wow, it was executed so poorly because all I saw was Houtaro blushing non-stop and Eru with her dry and vague confession. To be honest, if a hint of romance causes Houtaro to change his way of life, then this is not the way.. cause it speaks cliche, mundane and dull. Sorry.

Meh, Imma just pull out a deus ex machina and call this "a matter of preferences", wokay.

I never said the detective work was lame. I only say the mystery was. In fact I liked how Honobu based Oreki upon Christie's Miss Marple who uses her wit instead of her brawn (a-la American 'detectives') to solve cases. And it was never insignificant. As I said, every interactions lead to something. 'Why Didn't They Ask Eba?' as it's name implied was quite easy to solve. Why DIDN'T anybody asked Eba or her best friend? But if they did, would we have seen that manipulation of Irisu, or the realisation of Oreki that he was used? Hence why I said, the mystery was quite lame, but WHY it happens is good.

Well Houtaro IS a normal guy, why won't he blush in front of an attractive girl? And Eru's confession was not vague IMO. Eru is not simply saying "I like you". She shows her life to Oreki, how she lives, the expectations on her, the duty she has to fulfil, and the future that she has to strive for. She is basically stripped naked to him and says to him "this is who I am, and what I would be tied to". She trust him well enough to understand that. And let's not forget, they have spent most of the year together everyday in the clubroom, mostly sans Satoshi or Mayaka who have their own club, to get to know each other better (as alluded by some episodes). And it was never the romance that pulls Oreki to change the way his life, it was all the experiences throughout the year, but mostly it was Eru who dragged him into it, and hence she's one of the main reason of his change. Love is just the byproduct of it.

dont even go "BUT YOU MUST READ THE NOVEL" because f*** that kinda stupid requirement to enjoy anime.

My heart still ache and throb in pain for that ending, but as far as I know Kyoani did what they did best, adaptation.
Still, to this moment, I wish Kyoani would pull out their original ending card...

I nearly punched my screen when Oreki troll the shiet outta me in the last episode....

That to be said, I'll say this. If KyoAni keep delivering anime like Hyouka, I will absolutely forgive them for not animating the rest of Full Metal Panic novels for now (Dancing Very Merry Christmas to Always Stand By Me). Yes, I love Hyouka. Friggin love em.

The interaction between the character just blew my mind to smithereens. And I just love, love, love the subtlety on the development of Oreki and Chitanda relationship. Way, way way, just too lovable.
*And such a perfect way to wash away the horrible aftertaste after reading the latest Good Ending and KnIM chapters*

For those who wanna watch this for the mysteries, I suggest you to look elsewhere. This is a perfectly masked, slice-of-life anime.

And I shall cheer for Oreki and Chitanda. That last episode. That vague and yet fulfilling "confession". The realization and smile from Oreki. Chitanda's telling Oreki her goals etc.

And god tier animation as usual from KyoAni.

Good. Great. Awesome! One of the best anime I've watched.

p/s: Found this in a forum. What a fitting quote IMHO:
