The 2 products for comparison were clearly intended for different audiences but since you seek the opinion of LY forumers in piting the 2 together then my opinion is this:
The New Ipad serves more uses and not just gaming which gives it an unfair advantage over PSP vita in terms of product comparison but with the defects inherent in the current Ipad and seeing how quickly Apple products loses its novelty, I'll expect a "[WTS] New Ipad CHEAP" posting from you pretty soon...
With the PS Vita, Sony seemed to want to capitalise (and dominate?) the handheld gaming market and at the same time give birth to a generation of hardcore (and elite?) online handheld gaming players but seriously how much time is anyone willing to spend playing on a 5" screen! imho, online handheld gaming was not (and should not be) intended for serious gaming and if you're only intending to play the Vita casually (and judging by your options it seems the Vita does seem like a sure winner for your gaming tasks) then you're better off taking up forumer advice and playing games on your SGS2...
If Sony were to do it right by actually including full-fledged phone capabilities (Skype capabilities doesn't count) into their next gen Vita then maybe I'd consider it but that would encroach into the Sony-Ericsson product line...
