There are nice headphones from budgets like USD50-80, right up to the ones in the USD1,000 and above. Most important is to pick the good ones from the bad ones (and the flashier ones). Don't have to well to do to enjoy good sounding headphones with good music. The headphones recommendation thread at the Audiophile section alone employs the budget-level recommendation there on potential buyers whose thinking of improving their audio experience. About amps and DACs, that one later also can. Or there are cheap amps in the range of RM200-300 also.

Basically what I'm saying, there are no excuses not to get into the making your audio experience better. There is just "diverted funds" to other things you've prioritized more.

Going SG tomorrow. To audition two tube amps. When the investment comes to this much, listening it with your ears is a must already. Cannot blind buy.

i got my superlux headphone, a cheap but good usb dac for my home setup
that's enough already for a low budget set up
maybe an amp some other time but not really my priority
too much other priority to be taken care of

Listening through the NDSL speakers, audiophile quality

At least you understand the importance of a DAC. Most of the built-in ports on laptops/motherboards on desktops are shitty to begin with anyway, and built-in DACs are below average. Unless you employ proprietary stuff like Asus XONAR and the likes. And yes, there's that thing called "priority".

Speaking of which, Vita and 3DS audio output I can cry already. Cannot "don't give a fark" anymore after you've heard what is possible.
