Download Samsung KIES from Samsung website. Install it to ur PC.

Before u connect ur Note to USB port, make sure u untick USB Debugging in Settings > Applications > Development.

Try install Root Check Basic.

If Superuser is there, i think ur Note already rooted.

it depends on ur preference & needs...more important is how u gonna use is as a phone & tablet...Note = phone + tablet with more practical size...
