Yea, like my case... I've bought a mid-range android to my GF done root+custom rom (early build). She ended up unhappy because there are still bugs for that rom. She don't listens to what I had to say about it and say this phone is crap...

Now I hand over my Gnex with Milestone 4 & Apex Kernel... and she is happy with it... because this phone cost 2k
*
And your point is? You are just complaining that your gf is materialistic, isn't it?

For nexus devices its different.I understand if a guy buys a HTC, Samsung or other devices not to root. But nexus man... its a devs phone or android enthusiast.

Price comes before function eh? Lol. Wait till the phone from is updated. She'll change her mind.

Ahem...

Sammy's phone is easier to root that GNex. Bootloader already unlocked!

hmm.gif  Tell me what root can do to ur gnex besides titanium backup n market enabler?
U cannot include flashing custom roms or kernel..
Just "root" itself..
*
Replace default Google Maps with Brut Maps and get GPS navigation function.

Battery Mod obviously.

Previously, I used to install GTalk with video call on my SGS, right now it came by default with GNex's ROM.

Lol.. GNex root only requires 1 click and the rest just hit Enter
*
Not just yet. Initially, you have to make sure you have the right USB driver installed.

Then you have to make sure your USB driver works for your fastboot, otherwise you can't unlock your bootloader.

The 1-click root was available long ago in Market since FroYo, called z4root. Which root your phone from an app itself. The 1-click root in GNex was made convenient with the GNex Toolkit, not the traditional ODIN method. Which of course, I'm fine with, either way. Depends on where the market direction is.

Weird. Reflash stock ROM over your current ROM.

But is it really necessary to do all those things? Without all those, is a gnex really that bad?
From personal experience, i have yet to find any issue with gps locking, wifi, virus n batt ..
Evrything seems to work perfectly..

Im pretty happy with the buttons layout n boot animation too...
Changing it doesnt make any diff in performance either..so why bother?
*
You are right, you don't really need to root GNex to use it. It's fine by itself. smile.gif

Just like how I am still on stock ROM until now.

I installed onwhere Maps with voice navi..no root...

Battery mod seems a good reason to root... But not quite good enuf for me .. Batt life seems pretty acceptable for my usage..

Actually, im just looking for a really good reason to start messing with my gnex.. And MIUI seems pretty interesting..
Gonna wait for a little while n see if there are bugs...
*
I find the installed version of Brut Maps is not stable. Might FC from time to time (at least it does on S2 + GB). So I'd rather stick with replacing the Maps in total. Besides, there are certain apps that Intent direct to Google Maps, hence your Brut Maps would not be used. I can't remember what at the moment, but there are such app, or links from websites. You just gotta try then you'll know why I prefer my method, despite the troubles.

Battery mod not for saving battery, but to show battery percentage on the notif bar without installing extra app. A must have for Android since all stock ROM doesn't have this.

Rooting/Custom ROM are always double edged sword. Always read carefully and find out what works and what not before flashing. That's all. Otherwise, stick with stock, don't kill you anyway. tongue.gif

How about flashing back to stock ROM for your mid range Android phone and pass it back to your gf? At least everything works. biggrin.gif

It's surprising that Gmail is gone. Your phone was pre-rooted by someone else before reaching your hand?

The only way to test if your ROM is truly STOCK is by revert to factory settings. Gmail app should be preloaded with STOCK ROM itself.
Just curious, is your GNex is 2nd hand unit?  hmm.gif
*
Factory reset doesn't restore apps that have been removed from your /system/app folder.

Of course, thanks to the toolkit, I don't have to hunt for rooting kernel and such as well. biggrin.gif

Im not new to android bro.. Been messin with my old xperia x10..
Bootloeder, kermel, adb, root explorer, gps.conf, desktop visualiser to name a few..
I flash custom roms at least once a week..i know wat its like to customise an android..

But at the end of the day, i normally end up having my phone hang, reboot by itself, forceclose etc..

Having an ease of mind on stock rom is way better than having a souped up phone with a possibilty that it would fail on u at the most unexpected moment... Like camera hang when u need it the most..or phone hang when u were showing ur  friend that ur phone can do much better, but not.. Which mean, u'll need to reflash, restore etc..

After a while, most people get tired of all this.. Like me  biggrin.gif  now my concept is.. Dont fix if it aint broken, cos u might end up breaking it
*
It's time bro. Time to get an iPhone. brows.gif

I wasn't joking, seriously.

I still find that ICS is not polished enough. My stock rooted phone just rebooted by itself today, afternoon. I just cleared the notif section. Then 1 minute after that, I saw the boot animation. doh.gif

God knows what was wrong with it. sweat.gif

Initial impression on this radio. The phone runs really hot on 3G data. Battery drain is a lot faster too, compared to KK6. sad.gif

Was getting H signal at Citta Mall while at the car park area. Doesn't show H+ though.

Will keep this baseband until I got the chance to fully test it, such as sitting inside Chili's, or SFCC. That will be the proof. (phone hot hot)

QUOTE(abundai @ Mar 25 2012, 12:12 PM)
u hav a point and i cant agree more. im not saying that i wont root or flash custom rom ever,  just that for now,  i havent come accross any reason to mod the stock ICS yet cos its seems to be near to perfect.  haven't seen any lag issue,  batt seems pretty good,  data quite stable,  gps locks quickly too..
*
Try typing in Viber. It lags like shat... even slightly in WhatsApp.

The phone just wouldn't register the touch when I press it, as witnessed by enabling the touch-tracking in Developer Settings. hmm.gif

But I read somewhere that, having Battery Mod (to show %) would lags the phone. So I am not 100% sure if it was lag caused by the battery mod or just GNex getting laggier and laggier.

Boot into CWM.
Then, you'll see it.
It's called "Wipe Data/Factory Reset".

You must do this before flashing a new ROM, else, your phone will not be stable.
*
That's already been done la...

Got any better suggestion then?

Thanks to your suggestion, Docomo's baseband is a real deal. Getting H+ connection at Chili's Citta Mall, despite icon only shows H.
