I'm not an expert but I certainly wouldn't be comfortable in this situation. If it's been a week it's about time you asked HR about how these details will be sorted out (especially the contract ! My biggest concern in your situation would be how things would be handled in the event of an accident. From what you've said there is no official documentation that says that you're employed at the company. I really hope for your sake that you're not working on site right now.
My advice - don't wait, go and talk to HR about this.
