QUOTE(hunny_sapik @ Jul 30 2012, 03:47 PM) it's the one at menara sapurakencana, solaris hartamas. yeaaa im working on that project now, but on the consultant side la doing engineering, i saw on newspaper last saturday that they got the murphy oil project too. ya, hopefully can convert to permanent staff later Its the Serendah & Patricia Projects, one is a wellhead platform while the other is a CPP with LQ, quite a big project altho not really high profile probably due to its location in marginal field. Im not sure about the construction side but on the engineering side almost everything is approved for construction already.. |

QUOTE(alvinkhorfire @ Aug 15 2012, 09:12 AM) Okay, I have read previous pages of this thread. The general consensus I obtain from this thread is that it is much better to work in EPC contractors, than in Oil and Gas consultants, especially in terms of job prospect. Am I right about this? EPC contractor is good if you want to build your network, because you'll deal alot with the vendors, your clients and other parties, you'll also be exposed to both technical and commercial part of engineering which i must say is very important...so in a way, the prospect is much better for EPC contractor... However, if you want to learn basic engineering and design, consultants are much better, normally the engineering part of a project is outsourced to consultants (this depends on size of the project), for this case, EPC contractor will just do the procurement and construction, hence EPC consultant is not really the best platform to learn the basics of engineering as you will be constrained to commercial part of the project whereas consultants will emphasize more on ensuring the integrity of the engineering design...The downside of working as consultant is that your experience will mostly be limited to doing design works only, hence not much field exposure... So in the end, it really depends on what u're after, if you want to do design and familiarize yourself with all the international/client design standards, then consultant companies (Ranhill Worley, Technip, Aker) are the best place to go... but if you want a more well-round role/experience, then EPC contractor is better... My suggestion, go with consultant for few years, familiarize with the standards/codes used in O&G, then join EPC contractor, or better, join client terus.. |
