i wanna ask, half year i seconded to shell in their project team doing completion, basically is what i do is all the paper work and clerical job, and i felt like very wasted. I mean i dont see bright future, aside that my superior are earning 5digit and they do the same thing as us, compiling handover dossier, scanning, prepare certificate.. actually we are working on the CCMS system, some sort of completion system for construction and commissioning.. But i cant learn shit, cos everyday u do those clerical job waste whole day to compile 10-20 files, 1-2k checksheets, no time to even see what is the ITR and go on site to see the process.

If you guys were me, will you guys still staying for the job? If i am a diploma or a certificate holder of non engineering degree, they give me such job, no problem i can do. But i got a degree in engineering, and engineering stuffs boils in my blood, i felt i wasted 4 yrs study to get such work..

On the contrary, I recommend you join a contractor. You will learn a lot more working for a contractor than working for Petronas. You should only join an O&G operator after you've gained experience.

But again, I might also be biased because that's how I started my career. But I got to do real hands-on engineering work, be a real engineer, got my PE, before I continued my career with O&G operators. And money's good!  brows.gif

agreed, cos most of the job are done by contractors/vendors. operators are their client, even Shell design also done by ranhill, electrical parts done by vendor, from scratch. What Shell engineer do is to supervise and make sure they follow Shell standard. So i am still thinking hard should i join small vendor side or take deputy CSR post..

Oh.. ECS=Engineering Construction Services, 1 of the department of Shell. I am currently seconded to there as well, but i am currently assigned to a Shell project team. It's expected, not much newcomer in shell is direct hire biggrin.gif 1000 at SRD maybe less than 5 got in, or even less. So they say, wat for u fight joining at grad, u gonna die at their interview anyway. Work as contractor for 4yrs, later only u try apply, tat time u no need fight with grads, and since u already working as shell contractor, easier for u to get in since u know they working principal and their procedure.

Same like my friend. Seconded to SHell from MMC then after 6 months, WHAM become Shell's permanent employee.

on the other note, both my ex-colleague and his gf is one of the 5 this year. Luck btard.......

if they are experienced guy, it is easier to get in compare to graduates. If Shell ppl know u, u know them, easier to get in. If u are graduates, even u very fren with their MD or VP, sorry to say, u still ahve to apply thru their website.

I've applied some jobs at SLB, technip and sapura. Hopefully, i dont have to menganggur any longer lol. It has been 2 months. Dang.

May I ask if there is any company looking for corrosion engineer or welding engineer? very interested in both positions, rarely come across these job in jobstreet or elsewhere. Fresh grad in materials and manufacturing engineering. Thanks!
*
i believe i know who u are biggrin.gif how are u? haha.. Normally they expect senior/experienced for those kind of position. Unless u are able to join the big shot as graduate, else it would be hard. Normally we go into QA/QC for OnG lo.. becoming inspector.. but u need to take those certs in order to work as 1. Our subject not easy to get a job in Oil and gas ba.. closest to look for is QA/QC in OnG where they are related to all the NDT testing those lo.. smile.gif
