SLB is hiring freshies. Depending on which manager, some managers will not let you go within the first 3 years. You can leave, but you need to pay.
*
How do you know?

Also, should freshies just apply for it through their website by sending in a resume or is there other better ways of doing so?

My jr peers who got into SLB recently told me that. But that doesn't mean SLB will hire freshies only. But most who got hired recently are freshies.

The only way I know to apply is via the website.

I see. Thanks.

I will graduate in few more months. Hence, I have started to apply for as much as I can.

Good. At the same time, try to get to know some people in the industry personally so that you will get better advice in choosing your career path.
*
*nods* Will do so, but seriously can't afford to be picky with the first job. Hopefully I will get more than one offer to compare and decide blush.gif

To be honest & in my personal opinion, the course and university that you choose play more important part in getting your first job. Some average students from UTP can get hired by reputable companies easily as compared to other conventional universities' graduates.
*
I am taking Mechanical Engineering (which is an advantage as I heard the graduates are preferred by employers as compared to.. lets say civil engineering).. but my university is still quite new. Right now, I am just hoping to get noticed with the extracurricular activities I participated.

I am a mech eng fresh grad and got these two offers.

1.Static engineer in Technip
2.Global Rotational Development Program in Cameron Johor

Technip offer is dealing with technical stuff. While Cameron will be more on management. I am keen with cameron as it offers more exposure. However, I scare i will stuck in manufacturing work which i dislike.

Any suggestion?
*
A few years with Technip will empower you to have choices in O&G (instead of manufacturing) which lean more on management/ offer wider exposure also. Think for the long run. So if I were you, I would pick Technip.

I just received this email from careers@shell.com and it quotes:
Not sure myself if this email is really from Shell or some stupid scam mail? Anyone to point out for me please?
*
You did submit your application to Shell, right? And to answer your question - nope, it is not a scam

Mooi, what position u applied for? What did they say when they contacted u? For your case, how long it took you to wait?
*
Graduate position. It took me around 1 month (starting from the day I submitted my application) to get my phone interview appointment.

I believe the selection can be very subjective.

It depends on a company's needs at that particular moment. It depends on luck. It depends on first impression also (one of the HR executives or managers could happen to be finding fault with the ways you dress/ smile/ walk/ eat or talk, who knows) and the list goes on.

Any probs?
