Hi,

I would like to ask how good is the prospect of project engineer in o&g compare to comissioning and drilling engineer?  hmm.gif
*
Salary of drilling engineer is the best.. but high level knowledge and experience are required.

However, if you are looking to become Project Manager and Top management/Play politics.. you can go to Project Engineer.. Work Smart is required..

Salary wise will project engineer lose out alot to drilling engineer in long run. I'm talking about 10 years of exp in project maybe a project manager salary compared with lead drilling engineer? I'm a project engineer myself currently working in EPCC contractor company. Just want to how bright is my career path. hmm.gif
*
10 years experience will not qualify you to become Project Manager, Senior yes...

Guys, need a quick opinion on this.
My mentor told me that it's kinda hard to go into oil and gas if you don't start with oil and gas after you graduate? How true does this hold?
*
depend on what is your career path.. If you choose to be specialized in oil & gas engineering.. Your mentor is correct.. If you choose to be in general engineering or any work available in O&G, you can join later..

Example Specialization in oil & gas: drilling engineer, mud engineer, process/top site engineer, Turret Mooring System Engineer, Naval Architect, etc.. Actually, some of courses at Uni are related to O & Gas..

Example non: electrical engineer, instrument engineer, IT, finance, procurement, structural engineer..

You need to have a degree in geology first and probably spend the first 3-5 years understanding the fundamentals of petroleum geology before you start on geological modeling.

i m from mecha engineering background. is there a need to travel offshore if working at FPSO and OSV?
*
For Mechanical engineering student, BAB will put you under commissioning team, installation team or package engineer team..
As for graduate trainee, your senior/supervisor will ask your help to assist them on hands on work which is at vendor fabrication yard or at Shipyard. This is the fun begin, as most of FPSO project will execute at overseas (Singapore etc), require you to travel to yard.. Working onshore on board the FPSO.. Amount of allowance you will receive is good..
If you under commissioning or installation team, they may require you to go offshore during commissioning and hook up (1 month to 4 months)..
There is no requirement for you to work on OSV..

Working environment in BA is good for entry level if you manage to be it's graduate engineer, you will learn, experience and master your knowledge.. 5-6 years later, if you decide to join other company like SBM, etc, working environment in new company should be easier for you..

Need advice from O&G people

I know that 1) bumi armada and 2)TMH (technip mhb hull engineering) are both offering graduate program. I'm wondering which company provides better job prospect and increment?
*
Both offer almost the same job prospect and increment.. However, Bumi Armada currently have 2 FPSOs project on going vs TMH is non.. So think.. Which one will provide you better exposure?

As u mentioned, TMH offer higher salary than Bumi Armada, so go ahead if you driven by money/ month.. wink.gif
