Western Geco, CGG Veritas, PGS etc, these are the companies that have vessels and will require on-board processors. No harm sending a cover letter with your CVs to them.

hello OnG taiko, smile.gif
i have been told that Schlumberger Western Geco, Penang is a manufacturing plant for production of seismic equipment used to find OnG in deep sea and working there is not related in the offshore environment.
My question is it a good stepping stone to work at western geco as manufacturing engineers and used this experience in order to work in offshore area in the future?

can you give me an enlightenment for newbie man here?? notworthy.gif

My understanding is that fee is to join the conference/short course/field trip. Visitors are free to come to the exhibition for the 2nd day only. See here, at least how I see it. I'll be going tomorrow(today?), hopefully can get in.
*
Then it's a good opportunity to go and visit all the booth and get some info about what the service providers/operators do. I highly recommend it.

Greenfield = NEW
Brownfield = Existing

Example:
When u need to redevelop the field by means of increasing the gas pressure (as u need to maintain the production capacity),
then u need to install a new gas turbine compressor..installing this new GTC, means u need an additional module (compression module) to be in place on top of the existing process platform..
So, in this case, all work related to/or inside the new compression modules is consider Greenfield
While all work related to or inside the existing platform/process platform is consider Brownfield..

Another example,
U want to install air cond in your house, so the air will getting more cool, the air cond unit itselfconsider a greenfield, while all the related pipes, additional sockets, wiring to be installed in your house for the new air cond unit, i is consider brownfield works/activities

Just my 2cents knowledge

Greenfield is considered newly discovered field that has not been developed or in the early stage of development. Brownfield are oil and gas fields that have undergone multiple development phase and probably in the decline stage like Baram, Dulang etc etc.

So for example, Gumusut/Kikeh will be in the Greenfield stages while those Baram Delta fields are considered brownfields.

I am a mech eng fresh grad and got these two offers.

1.Static engineer in Technip
2.Global Rotational Development Program in Cameron Johor

Technip offer is dealing with technical stuff. While Cameron will be more on management. I am keen with cameron as it offers more exposure. However, I scare i will stuck in manufacturing work which i dislike.

Any suggestion?

The programme is to groom up future plant managers. Yes, its more on management since you will have a lot of managers under you in the future. You will be stationed on manufacturing plants, slow move from department to department, then become the manager of one department. After years of experience and shifting around different departments and plants around the globe, they may promote you as the plant manager. As for reward, pay is good but not as much as those field engineers. However, there are truckloads of benfits covering you and your families. Down side? You will be more concentrated in managing the plant rather than getting involve with OnG industry.

I dont think they have a structured interview so they will probably ask you a few questions.
You didnt specify if you are experienced or a freshie.
If you have worked before, they will want to know if you are familiar with PFDs, P&IDs and how to prepare them.
Also if you are familiar with the codes and standards used in the oil and gas industry.
If you are a freshie, they will just want to know if you are the right person with the right attitude and willingness to learn to be a process engineer.
Good luck anyway.
