Hi bendonarticx,

Pay Wise =
More or less mostly is the same package. Maybe a little bit extra on consultancy cause they pay depends on your exp. Some of my senior right now gains RM30K per month based on 15 years exp.

Benefit =
Same like wage. More or less the same.

Misc =
Consultant treat staff (ENGINEER) as an asset, because they will use engineer resume in their proposal. They more exp engineer they are, they more chances to win the tender.
Fabricator treat staff (engineer) as a machine but with a gooooood price. They do not need the resume to win the tender. What really they care is to complete the fabrication work withou LTE..

I see. My main focus would be more of a learning experience as I've just relatively started in this. Been seeing things from the "service provider" perspective for almost 2 years and I'm thinking of trying out new things. If the learning environment is conducive enough, I'll definitely consider. Thanks

Guys i got got a call from kencana pinewell offering me rm 2.2k for junior engineer position. What do you guys think? I dont mind the salary, but this job is in Kl and need to consider renting, living expenses. The positive thing is that this is a chance for me to join oil and gas industry and learn the trade.

If i were not wrong, they may be parring your qualifications to diploma. i believe they are looking for diploma/fresh grad degree holders if based on March 2012 advertisement.
it is a good kick-start for you as you have zero experience. unless you have something very good to bargain with.
many years ago, i survived in KL with MYR2.1k fresh grad with 1st class at construction consultant. then after probation, performance appraisal and company-jump more & more.

MYR2.8k western MNC perhaps or you have a very good 1st class degree/grad from reputable uni. or depends on the company current on-hands available projects & cash flow, capex/opex and many other factors.

it is not just generalise with "RM2.8k...the market now..."

if you have been long enough and competent, you will know your legit* sources.
google if you are not.

also qualifications. some MNC needs at least a degree/MBA to be promoted. certain experience may compensate the qualifications if the company not able to find the specialist.

benefits, depends on ranking also.

Guys, wanna ask for your opinion. Which one has better working environment and learning culture? Murphy oil or CPOC? (Office-based HSE dept)
*
Murphy gives better pay. Dont go CPOC, dont go CTOC. KPOC you can go tongue.gif, provided you can get in

Boss, for me right now this is the market value. Right now i give my junior engineer this price even though they asking a lower price. Just wanna be fair to everybody. When i interviewed people right now, i am not looking at their class of degree, boss. What i'm looking is their enthusiasm, deterministic and passion. These are the key that i need and looking for. Aker, Technip, Mustang & MMC give more or less the same range. RM2.7K ~ RM2.9K..Forgive me, boss

because certain people do not understand the petroleum economics and the operations, e.g., marginal oilfields.
people just wanna go join o&g because of the trend.

Kencana starts to recoup investment in Berantai oil field in 2 years

i agreed with ch_teo, a lots my junior wanna join O&G company because that is the trend in university. They expect when they join O&G suddeny they will got the high pay. They high pay is not now. My point of view is people will start recognize you when your experinces more than 10 years....That the nature...

10 years ago.. I was one of graduates who think could get high salary after graduation.. but it is not true..
People will only start recognize you if you directly involve in consulting your internal customer/external customer.. + working/station oversea or offshore.. not so oversea also can, cross southern border.. blush.gif and get pay in USD or SGD..
