Jamie Carragher, the consumate professional. Shuns the limelight and the media preferring to either spend time studying football videos or with his family. Not the most talented player around but has the heart of a lion. Even after that ****, Lucas Neil broke his leg, Carra had initially refused to come off, feeling like he'd let his team down. Only after realising the extent of his injury did he limp off. His most heroic moment was when he defended valiantly against an AC Milan side in full attack whilst suffering a double cramp. Despite this, he would heroicly stretch to cut out crosses despite being in agony. Said a lot that when asked by a journo what would happen if a bigger club came along, he immediately replied, "who is bigger than Liverpool?". In a day where one-club-players are rare, it was refreshing that he had never hesitated for an instant when asked.
Off the pitch, he also contributes to charity but unlike footballers starved for media attention, he made anonymous donations and was only found out after one of his mates revealed it to the press.
Steven Gerrard may be the heart of Liverpool Football Club but Jamie Carragher is it's soul.

QUOTE(issit? @ Aug 10 2012, 03:29 AM) Carra FTW. HEart and soul of liverpool. Still remember him as a young clumsy defender..scoring own goals for fun. how things has changed. But my fav of all time, batigol. reason , he is a beast !!! Current fav, messi, which imho , after watching football for a long time, is the best ever. Yup, I was one of Carra's biggest critics when he was playing at the fullback positions but what a transformation he made when moved into the centreback role. Batigol was on the verge of joining the Premiership once but Man Utd didn't want to meet the Viola's valuation of him, which they felt was too high for a bloke who was 30 at the time.

QUOTE(madmoz @ Aug 10 2012, 11:46 AM) Scott Ollerenshaw. Played his heart out for Sabah, lost his heart to a Sabahan and now calls Sabah home. I believe that at some juncture, he was setting up futsal courts in Sabah. Friend of mine supplied the netting to him.

QUOTE(madmoz @ Aug 10 2012, 11:54 AM) Aye, I think he's still involved in football back in KK. Another of our 'imports' from that era, Khairul Azman Mohamed also married a local girl, but sadly has been much less fortunate in his post-football life/career. Back in the day, my favourite Selangor player was Karel Stromsik. It was a big deal back then because he had played one World Cup game back in 1982 after the Czech's lost their first and second choice keepers to injury. Another league import I loved to watch was Pahang's Piyapong Pue On. He scored 70 goals in 61 appearances for Pahang!
