Week 2 :
all this setup is just experiment purpose for budget tank setup(long term keeping). you may follow this guide for starting your own budget setup.i recommended chendol plant (utricularia sp. i've forgot which 1. m20?) which have an ability to trap pathogen (bad bacteria) and small organism. based from my experience. planaria is one of his main diet (if their accidentally try to pass bladder like traps. pict removed. wrong weeks Filtration experiment as i already mention in my previous posting : - ADA bacter ball (within filter sponge and foam inside the container) - bio ring - activated carbon and ammonia chips ----------------------------------------------------------------- plant : 1) java fern 2) weeping moss 3) japanese hairgrass 5) chendol (utricularia sp m20?) 6) mini fissiden (on small driftwood) add ohers : 7) riccia 8) mini riccia 9) glosso new driftwood which comes with moss that i buy before. untie the moss, than use as decoration. - remove cambomba ------------------------------ water parameter : - ph 6.3 (didn't check for others) - tem : 32 celcius (28-29 celcius at night) - adding 5 drop of yuzu and khaki fruit juice for every 4 days (got this idea from japan aquarist) -------------------------------- no co2 injection --------------------------------- lightning : T5 12w ---------------------------------------------- community tank members : - indian dwarf puffer (female) -1 - threadfin rainbow -3 - neon tetra - 4 - Guppies - 2 - otto - 3 - Fire red shrimp - 5 - red cherry shrimp - 4 - sulawesi shrimp - 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fish and shrimp diet dwarf mini puffer : i didn't drop any food for him since her birth (specially trained for bugs hunter) i just put her in my tank full of planaria and daphnia. her main died is planktonic crustacean. this little girl ignored shrimp. sometime if i introduce her in shrimp tank, she goes for ghost shrimplet. and ignored other srimplet species. haven't found any of his family member eat shrimp. they still covered a lot of question which i still don't know why. and 1 more thing. since i keep them from their first generation, they ignored all live food except earth worm. damn risky. otto and shrimp : boiled cucumber and sinking pallet tetra, threadfin and guppies : floating and sinking pallet. for threadfin, i just crush the pallet till it turn to.. damn.. what they call it? serbuk sometime they eat what my mini puffer eat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ =========================================================== p/s : if you have any idea to share about for budget setup, drop your opinion p/s : have found out that my cherry got eggs since this 3rd week tank setup. i'll add latest photo after this NOTE : ALL THIS SETUP IS BASED FROM MY EXPERIENCEs ONLY. QUOTE pm me best price bro.. wanna try riccia plak the small 1 starting for RM 1. what about they size? you may refer to how's big is your thumb im still waiting for weijie mossses for this budget setup. hahaha Added on March 18, 2012, 11:01 am ![]() RICCIA root my little girl interframe without knowing im captured her pict actuallt mini puffer doesn't like camera This post has been edited by shinshishio: Mar 18 2012, 11:32 AM |

QUOTE(Guppies @ Mar 18 2012, 11:50 AM) oh..spaghetti algae..your tank rich in nutrien. controlling them by using any sucker plant like cambomba. u may try reduce lightning period. but that won't help very much. better remove it manually. remove all the thread. using pincette, etc.. carefully remove it's 'root'. one more thing, water circulation must be good enuff to ensure that i won't come back. sigh.. never had this so kind of algae so long that makes forgotten to encounter it excessive nutrient is one of the main key try googling. there is a lot of ways to encounter it This post has been edited by shinshishio: Mar 18 2012, 12:23 PM |

QUOTE(Shoot@M3 @ Mar 18 2012, 04:36 PM) nice setup! thanks. but im still noob. forever noob that driftwood.. looks like dangling from outside! gave idea to stick this style of DW to the glass.. may be nice may be nice. actually i'm failed to balanced the layout on the right side. got large open space. even curve line of that driftwood is too steep, that effect the whole impression of the theme. but from the natural view of that driftwood, may be nice. draws attention instantly. 1 more thing. i pick up wrong plant for this long term budget setup. QUOTE you inspired me bro.. thx bro.. is having a very tight budget, but still want to play with this expensive hobby sweat.gif btw, you got pm thanks. but im still noob. this hobby might be expensive and WILL BE inexpensive if you know how to. if you really want to save your budget, i can share a lot based from my experiences. really save your budget. and at the end, you may sell whatever you get from what you had done so far. i mean, you livestock. $$$ oh. compared with marine live.. damn.. hard to turn this hobby to INEXPENSIVE. QUOTE (LuQEE @ Mar 18 2012, 07:19 PM) to be honest, i didnt know that this hobby is very expensive type of hobby doh.gif i found out it is expensive when surveying the price for the soil and co2 set cry.gif and realized it was already too late when i bought my co2 set..but cant turn back..must continue forward with this hobby lol ^this is all NA boss fault..he made me kene posion with it...but it was worth it~ thumbup.gif to all the newbies like me who have/almost lost hopes in this hobby because to the expensive price tag, be patient and think other alternative ways to solve the budget problems because in the end, it is worth it with the added *syiok sendiri* mood brows.gif not really expensive. but the way you managed the livestock made you made them expensive. wink.gif not mentioning the DIY. but how you care them about. control all the nutrient, you'd be fine try to catch up any event organised by ADA. its good for your long term fish planted fish keeping This post has been edited by shinshishio: Mar 18 2012, 11:25 PM |

QUOTE(LuQEE @ Mar 18 2012, 11:13 PM) yeah. that hybrid 1. but for pisang, nogo googling this fruit name : khaki fruit since i'm using this method, i don't have any problems with it so far.. varies from water parameters QUOTE yuzu = lemon rite? wont it be lowering my pH too much? how to dose? any article i can read ka boss? wanna try dis method but i want to do some reading 1st...for better understanding... no. nearly looks like lemon. but a lil bit different. as i mentioned before. varies from water parameters. i live at sungai buluh. so, tap water here a lil bit problems. more acidic. ph 6.2.. try changing yuzu with other non acidic fruit. but khaki fruit is a must. other than that, i don't know.but any tank with ph more than 6.5 can use this method. not forget to mention again. depend on what livestock you keep in your tank. |

QUOTE(kurangak @ Mar 19 2012, 12:12 AM) after some google-ing n reading.. it has something to do with ascorbic acid, lowering the pH level abit (algae thrive in neutral water), redox reaction with Ca2+ n Mg2+ ions blablabla... hahaha.. how's that feel? good isn't it? i shall dig further into this... mostly related with chemistry. the web owner says and CONFIRMED that khaki and yuzu fruit contain some specific nutrient which suitable for planted tank. but i dont find any 'useful' nutrient for water planted on that time. the only things that i get since i read em, even without ADA clear super, carbon chips + less WC, i still get clear water without any algae bloom. well..since you mentioned it.. i may search it back the way i was starting to find about DIY aquarium plant fertilizer.. go! go! go! |

Will it lead to the leakage of co2? if u really want to save your budget, check for any co2 leaking first by using bubble test method. if there's no sign of leakage, seal it(crack part) off with rapid steel epoxy. rm 10+ for sure. im musing araldite. good 1 |

QUOTE(kurangak @ Mar 22 2012, 07:07 PM) bos...i ve read the article uve given, n using my basic understanding of microbiology, chemistry n advance biology, there is no part in that article talks about BGA... ( it talks mainly about composition of urticularias trap liquid, how it differs under different condition n microorganism diversity in the plant's trap...) except for one part where it talks about xylitol (exist at trap surface) , where it has the property to inhibit bacteria's colony to produce biofilm (n from my understanding, BGA is cyanobacteria, n the colony produce biofilm as protection against element) ... prolly u gave me the wrong article? oh my! thanks for noticing me back or you can read one of my favourite link..unless you love to read em chendol planta QUOTE LuqeEE wow. because lof mouquito larvae im accidentally headbutt my brothers red tailed shark a few years ago. so as a punishment from him, i should care this black-chicken-fish with whatever i have. and finally. it die.. i accidentally headbangging this litle guy QUOTE zeneticX try take a look on this entire page aquascape read-only memory This post has been edited by shinshishio: Mar 22 2012, 09:30 PM |

Non-ADA Aquasoil = RM40 Rocks = RM100 Plants = RM30 Lighting = RM60 DIY CO2 = RM 10 HOB Filter = RM25 Saechem Excel = RM50 Small Fan (Optional) = RM35 p/s: this if i were you, otherp eople might have their own budgetting but sure something could come out.. rocks can be buy at nursery around kampung melayu nursey near kota damansara. more cheap i guess. try buying only 2 type of plant for your first trying. once they grow bigger, cut any part you wish to theow them out and the one that you just cut off, tie them on driftwood, riccia stone, etc. hehe.. just concentrate on fertilizer@potassium for 'rootless' plant such as riccia |
