Just connect and start using la. I've never hear that we need to do anything to it before we start using.

Just be very careful when you connect or disconnect it from the air hose, thats when most of us broke ours... cry.gif

Perhaps start with Red Cherry Shrimp.. almost all tetras can mix with them nicely.. i got neon tetra, rummy nose, and black neon tetra mixed, and oto, SAE.

remember to attach sponge to the filter intake, to prevent baby fishes & shrimplets or shrimps sucked.

With the condition that the RCS has been in the tank for quite some time and is adapted to it before you put in any fishes. That was my experience la...

If you put in fishes first then RCS, you'll lose a lot of them, less likely if you put RCS first then fish...

But will your fan be noisy hmm.gif My tank is in the room, I love the water coming down the filter's sound, but if the fan gives out noise, it will be hard for me to sleep sweat.gif
*
I'm using computer fan, 2 unit on my 2 ft, no noise at all... Use fan that don't rotate too fast, the faster they are, the more noise they produce. So I use slow rotating, but using 2 units to make up for the slow speed. 1 computer fan RM10 and 1 adapter RM15. My total cost RM35, been using for >2 years now.

Temp, 28-30c, if it rains come to down to 26c... My tank just beside my bed. thumbup.gif

And just to add, if your not using external canister filters, but internal water pump, the heat generated from the pump will heat up the tank...

I was reading on an article about watts per gallon for the plants..
Does this mean that for my nano tank which I assume is 50litre or 13gallon of water, requires 13g * 3w = 36 watts? If this equation is correct, then I would have to buy 2 lmore lights (each 13w). However I think it would be ridiculously bright as well as a rise in temperature to my tank.
*
Its just a guide, but if your tank is 50 litres, then its a 2 feet tank already. My 2 ft using 55watts... biggrin.gif

If you not sure, just measure and calculate the volume of the tank, height X width X length in cm

1 cm cube is 1 ml...

Oo..but does LED light system will make plant pearling?
whr i can get Aquazonic PL 11w clip on, any one use it be4? may shr some experience?
TQ

To make plants pearl is a combination of adequate lights, Co2, fertilizers and appropriate plant types. Not just lights and not all plants will pearl.

LED very expensive, if budget allows please go ahead... Light must be around 6500K spectrum, should be stated on the box.

http://www.my-mac.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6093

The link above will divert those interested in DIYing your own fans to the Malaysian Aquascaping Community. The topic is discussed in detail by a very senior aquascaper. Covers everything from buying fans, connecting them and also various ways to hold the fan up bu the side of the tank.

I found it especially useful when I decided to DIY my own fan, so I though I share it here. All credits goes to the forum and the forumer.

IME, there is only 2 wires, even if you connected it wrongly it won't burn out the fan or the adapter. I had to cut the wires and reconnect it the other way when the fan didn't spin on the first try... Hehe...=P

The adapter for the fan can be found in any hardware store, just ask for AC to DC adapter, or the other way around I forgot already.

To hold the fan up on the side of the tank, I'm using some clip for the tank divider and should be available in any LFS stores too.

If the fan does make some unpleasant noise, you can actually disassemble the fan and lubricate it with oil. I did mine and the noise went away... thumbup.gif

My 2 ft tank with these 2 fans losses about 1 to 2 liter of water a day, depending on the weather, temperature lower by 1 to 2c as compared to without fan.

Diatom, brown algae... Usually found in new tanks, how long you set up tank already? Otto will take care of every inch of it.

Confirm diatom, brown algae... Usually in new tanks or after rescaping, sometimes never goes away, for me la... tongue.gif

Otto is "ottocinclus", to me is mother nature's greatest gift for the planted tank. Haha... its algae eating fish, strict vege so won't disturb any shrimps or other fish.

Beside Otto's (get at least 5-6 tails, they are group creatures) , you can also use Netrite Snail, they eat those algae and also polish your glass clean.
wonder what is netrite snails? follow this link for picture -> http://www.google.com.my/search?q=netrite+...iDYahiAfZqKmSAw
They are group creatures, but he only got 1ft tank, I don't think there will be enough algae for > 4 otto in 1ft tank. And IME its very hard to find suitable food for them other then algae, tried to feed them various vege, only the shrimps and fish eating them. Otto never touched the vege at all. cry.gif
