i just noticed that my rcs only tank got a lot of planaria and fast moving white insect (<1mm size).

how to get rid of them? I do not want to put No-Planaria. Can I put in 10 neon tetra or guppy to eat them?

no wonder my tank now got no snail... now only know they were cleared by planaria. Next planaria food will be my rcs, right?
*
woot. then you can sell planaria to those aquarium full of stray snails. smile.gif

incase of soil and lava rock shortage to make a slope, can i use holland sand/fine gravel as the base then topup with alot of soil to make the slope?
thanx

*
yes, but you would not able to separate them if you want to rescape your whole tank in future.
and all substrates that you put inside aquarium will act as ph buffer. in other words, you will have different ph reading if you using lava rocks/holland sand/fine gravel as base layer. do more study and testing before starting.

wht is the diff:-

1. brighty K
2. green brighty special lights
3. green brighty special shade

Do i need to buy all? I plan to buy STEP 2 now. roughly how much is the damage in the current market?

DO i still need to get iron bottom then?

i wonder what will happen, if:

i buy a new tank, korek the soil in my old tank...put 5element in new tank n put soil, tanam, n direct transfer all fish n plant go there w/o cycle.

what will be the impact? (p/s: im using cannister)
*
as kurangak said,

brighty k, special lights, special shade, they having almost same chemical substance, just different proportion. plants that grow fast needs different combination of ferts compare to slow growing plants. your light wattage and co2 bps also determines how fast your plants growth, and what mineral they need most.
i am trying to minimize usage of ADA products since they are really over pricing in malaysia. i would recommend you to go for Borneowild ferts as alternative.

Iron bottomw is for red plants only. you need it if your soil is old (3month plus) and you need to push iron bottom stick into soil nearby your red plants.

about adding old soil into new tank, yes, you would save some money, but old soil has very limited nutrients. you would need to pump more nutrient in order for plants to grow well.
after you disturb the soil, most bacteria colony is destroyed. you might face ammonia spike.

QUOTE(sang gemok @ Apr 3 2012, 01:00 PM)
what water parameter is suitable for shrimp and fish actually?
*
fresh water 6.0 - 7.5ph. but this not meaning that ALL fresh water fish can survive between this range.
you need to be specify on which type of fish, where is their origin (local breed or wild caught), what is their previous water ph.
some fish or shrimps will die with slightly fluctuation of ph. thats why we prefer harder water as there would be minimal ph swing while water change.

wow..then if i were to chg to a let say 2f tank, (maybe 3f), what i should do? get soil, 5elements, and need get the nutrien ferts?

im having riccia, moss, rotala in my tank only now. Glosso and japanese pearl all mati already...HOW TO REDUCE TEMPERATURE?nowadays always 30-31..compared to alst time 25-27. i got a BOYU fan for it.. icon_question.gif
*
you can always use back 50% of old soil, just top up some new soil on top.
nutrient ferts can put underdose, unless you want to boost up the growth then you put according to recommendation.

what did you changed until so much of temperature diff? did you modify light wattage? is your room temperature hot also?

hmm..which BW products i shld take? currently i have ADA brighty K, and Seachem Nutrien. So what other thing i need to buy?

glosso all mati n japanese pearl all KO. i am staying in the same room. i did not modify any light wattage, 7-8hrs per day. any recomendations bsides chiller?
*
refer to this for ADA products >> http://www.adana.com.my/products/liquid_system.htm
google will give you more accurate answers if you are asking about products.
IMHO, i dont really support ADA as they are really expensive.

if you havent done anything, why does the temperature spike up 4celcius? you must had done something and temperature increased.
i dont think your glosso died of insufficient ferts. modtly is due to water temperature.

one question about E-Ballast:

To replace the E-ballast for my PLL light, is it any E-ballast can be used as long as the wattage is enough, or need to find the E-ballast designated for PLL?
*
normal ballast only has 2 output wires, you need to find E-ballast that designed to run PLL (which has 4 output wires).

you guys/girls/its using wavemaker in your planted setups or you all just using powerhead?
thinking to provide o2 and co2-rish water to entire aquarium and to flushes dead spots and accumulated waste in planted tanks.
need advice. and how to know whta type of wavemaker suitable for what tank? same goes to powerhead too

thanx

*
IMHO, you dont need a wavemaker if your tank is 2feet or smaller. i would suggest to you wavemaker instead of power head because they are smaller, and generate much lesser heat.
i am using a wavemaker rated 2000L/h in my 3feet to blow co2(light period) and o2(when light off). you need to know which flow rate of wavemaker is suitable for your aquarium.
flowrate too low, you dont feel it is helping.
flowrate too high, moss flying everywhere.

QUOTE(melodyworm @ Apr 7 2012, 07:06 PM)
hi guys... its my first time posting here... been stalking this forum ever since the start of v8... lol... been doing some homework and research about ada and aquascaping... might set up a 4 ft tank in near future... any questions might have to ask all the sifu here yea? ^^

Added on April 7, 2012, 7:09 pmi also needs to ask... how much does it cost normally to get the whole co2 set? went to a shop and the shopkeeper quoted me 2 prices... rm620 with auto cut-off valve and 280 for non-auto 1... any suggestions?
*
QUOTE(melodyworm @ Apr 7 2012, 10:44 PM)
but the difference between the co2 is the tank meter. shop keeper told me the RM600+ 1 is auto adjust so i dont have to keep on adjusting the bubbles... do i really need the auto valve? whats the average price that ppl here spend for their co2 set and any nice LFS to recommend? if cheap, nice and wonderful lagi better la hahaha...
*
welcome welcome smile.gif

This would be my offer for co2 set:
1. co2 tank steel 4kg - Rm180
2. ANS solenoid (2big gauge with fine tune regulator) - Rm250
3. UP bubble counter pro D-499 - Rm30
4. Super diffuser G-024-L - Rm30
5. high pressure resistance air hose 10ft - Rm15
6. UP co2 indicator - Rm25
Total price is just Rm500. Price will be reduced more if you take with other items such as ADA soil, 5elements, lights, etc...

just attach my solenoid with timer, then it will automatically switch on/off everyday.

not planning on buying though as the part can be readily request in malaysia and more cheaper and its a hassle for me to relearn reading wiring diagrams  doh.gif , but for ppl who want 24 piece set LED, this one looks promising
http://www.aquastyleonline.com/products/Aq...Ds-DIY-Kit.html
but at the price of MYR 349.80. hehe abit pricey but for ppl who are looking for futuristic and simplified ligthing system with big deep pockets, this is for them i guess

*
dont worry. i planning to bring in custom made LED lighting end of this year.
will let you guys know after i make and tested it smile.gif
current LED light sets either too expensive or light spectrum not suitable.

have multiple of 2feet tank for S grade, SS grade, black king kong, snow white. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(cute_miao @ Apr 12 2012, 11:41 AM)
then set up the tank in the fridge? hahahaha...

i was walking in midvalley lz time, n i saw this product in ACEWARE shop..said it helps to reduce electric..is it true? any1 used it?

Chiller + light + solenoid + cannister = TNB  rclxm9.gif
*
i am using it right now. not really efficient.
our home florescent light is about 18W, so i would use this as comparison.
Example: 3feet planted tank.

Chiller 1/10hp = you use 10hours of this chiller = 1hour using aircon 1hp

light 150W = consume most electric in planted tank equipments. more worst if you are using PLL which release a lot of heat.
There is a rule that says"energy could not be created/lost, it can only be converted from one form to another". So Input = electric, output = light + heat. more heat = less light. hope you guys understand what i saying. lol

solenoid = 5W to 15W = about your toilet light wattage. open 8hours per day.

canister = eheim 2217 = 20W.

flagfish are aggressive or not? saw them in NA couple of times, cheap and look nice, but scared will harass the shrimps, otos and my c.barbs.

badass = very aggresive.
i once put one pair of young flagfish into my 2feet tank with only 10guppies, second day most guppy has broken tails.
but flagfish is the best algae fighter i ever encounter.
my supplier demonstrate by putting one driftwood full with hair algae into flagfish tank, they immediately head over and start ripping it apart flex.gif
the only fish that eat FRESH BBA blush.gif
