You have different tastes and the designer will try to incorporate that into the space, if they're good that is and don't just give you a "standard" design. The price will be how picky you are. 5) Go to a bookstore and browse the architecture and home books there. Get an idea of what you want so you'll be able to tell your designer !
6) I'm not saying students are not good, but the best ones will probably be already part timing for agencies. And you can't blame STUDENTS for mistakes because you were cheap. You will also have to supervise them more which apparently you don't have time for.
7) Again depends on the designer. You can ask for a quotation 1st then try and see if anybody will give you a better price. A good designer will of course try and package the whole renovation at a reasonable price and time frame.
