Just wondering, is there any unit readily available on the shelve from any shop in LYP?
*
why not directly onlineorder from RS malaysia, Although the RPi is shipped from UK, free delivery fee (not sure for element14). if there are any "ready unit", i believe it will be more expansive than buying online.

what usb wifi dongle do you guys use?
any that is compatible out of the box with RPi 2 & Raspbian Wheezy?

do i must use the one built specifically for RPi because i read somewhere that the USB ports doesn't provide enough power for common dongle.
anyone can clarify this?

i'm using this one : TP link N nanohttp://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-11_TL-WN725N.html

but you need to manually set up its driver.

lan to connect to raspberry pi? sweat.gif I'm using OS X,usually the Rpi LAN into the router and SSH from Terminal
*
yup.. LAN to Rpi, then SSh form OSX, because mine one is headless Rpi, so when wifi is not available, i still can ssh buy LAN directly to it.

hmm,i don't have my Ethernet-to-USB adapter with me,couldn't test it for you laugh.gif what about sharing your internet connection from OSX?your macbook will then act as DHCP and distribute IP to your Pi
*
Tried, but no working...is it because the RPi is running both eth0 and wlan0 at the same time? because i need wifi to ssh into RPi, when setting up the eth0 from OSX.

Shouldn't be a problem if wifi is not connected?if you share the network, your Mac should assign IP to your Pi.usually when I don't know/can't find the IP of the Pi,I would use Pi Finder to get its IP address. Then only I would ssh with the Pi IP
*
But the wifi in RPi is connected, is this reason it fail to get ip from osx?
i tried to ifdown and up the eth0, i saw it requesting ip through 255.255.255.255, is this normal? because the OSX self assigned ip (on OSX) is something like 169.254.XXX.XXX

try disconnecting the wifi and see? sweat.gif for me,169.254.xxx.xxx only appear when the OS X cannot get an IP,hence self assign
*
Tried before...and it is no problem to get ip when connect it to router, so maybe osx side need to set something?but so far i only can check the internet sharing, nothing much i can do.

OSX should have an Internet sharing feature like Windows and Linux w/ GUI where the DHCP Server is automatically run when u enable internet sharing. Otherwise, u can install a 3rd party dhcp server and give ip to ur raspi  laugh.gif
*
Any suggested good 3rd party dhcp server?

seem like your setting from OS X is ok,did u set static IP or DHCP assigned for your Pi? sweat.gif
*
the eth0 for rpi is set to dhcp.. i hvae tried to plug it in router, it can get ip form router... no sure why OSX is not working.

QUOTE(wcypierre @ Aug 5 2015, 05:08 PM)

At your mac, set the ip of your ethernet interface(lan) to
ip: 10.10.10.11
netmask: 255.255.255.0

Plug your raspi to ur mac and access ur raspi via 10.10.10.10
*
it that any special by setting to 10.10.10.10?
i have tried to set static on Rpi and OSX before, it worked, can ssh into RPi form OSX, but the problems was: Rpi cannot access internet via wifi any more.

My purpose connecting OSX to Rpi via LAN is for the case whne i cant access the internet ( when i bring it to some place which i do not have the wifi password), i got an other way to connect it, which is LAN for this case.

no, as well as you put a private ip that is not used by any devices at your network then it will be okay (i.e 192.168.x.x)
replace x with any number from 2 - 253.

Anyway, the above is just for additional knowledge  laugh.gif

Do the "2. Set up the client" where you will set Using DHCP for configuring IPv4 and it should work. Set back your raspi to use dhcp if you've changed it to static ip previously.
http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_...ection_ethernet

Try and see if it works. I don't have a Mac so can't try it out personally
*
Before doing this test, i even built a button for resetting the /etc/network/interfaces , because mine one is headless, any problem ssh into it, really die laio rclxub.gif

here is my OSX static ip:

address:192.168.10.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0

hers is my Rpi static ip:
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.10.3
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.10.2

result:
fail to ping from both side. [with or without gateway mentioned in Rpi] and [with or without connected to wifi at the same time eth0 conneted]
