Guys just got mine model b fr element14. Can I powered it with any smartphone charger ?
*
Use the normal smartphone charger which is rated 5V 1A. Depending on model, A uses less power. while B starts from 750mA to 1.5A iinm. Those ipad/galaxy charger are rated 2A though i think it should be able to support.

I'm using my old samsung galaxy 5 charger.. IINS, it's only 0.5A.
Any idea what will happened if we use unsuitable power supply?
*
should be ok i think. 0.5A is standard power provided by PC USB port as well.

so if the power is inadequate, it will only cause Pi to shutdown..
guess I'm ok since I didn't face any shutdown issue so far.. but the interface for the openelec seem like a bit lagging..

the funny thing is.. I use a 8GB sandisk card.. after I format it n install with the openelec, windows will show only 1GB space.. any idea why?

From the way u asked, it so obvious u never bother to check the raspberry pi wiki page itself.
