Hey C-Fu and other electronic gurus,

I have some question. For resistor with rating 100ohm 3 watt.(same thing for 330ohm 1watt.)

What does the 1 watt mean? The resistor it self draws 1 watt?

If connected to a 12V sla battery. How many V drop does it cause?
Thanks so much,
Skyward
*
No,the watt is the power rating of the resistor.its the amount Of power the resistor can take.exceeding the power rating will cause the resistor to blow. 3 watt is a lot I think

the sealed lead acid is for cree xpe leds
I have some other problem powering the pi directly via usb hub.

So I have a dell x50v, dc adapter rated for 5.4v. zero load it measures 5.6v. So I tried to put a shoctty diode to hopefully give a forward voltage of 5.3v. However, it does not seems to work with my usb hub. I soldered in series to the usb hub input. Across the diode, indeed the voltage measured 5.3v, but if I include the usb hub into the measurement it shoots up to 5.5v...
I wonder if the polyfuse on the usb hub got blown... since I measured the usb ports voltage and they come up to 100mv+/-

rclxub.gif
/newbie - I just blown my first diode. spectacular poofff
*
Haha,I'm still planing on a 2A USB hub driven by 9v adapter..parts are shipping in with the Pi..why use schottky diode? Try using a 7805 voltage regulator,5v

7805 need more then 6 dcV to provide stable 5Vdc 2amp, or so I was told and read.
In your case if you have a 9v adapter, down converting it using the 7805 should be ok.
*
Use LDO voltage regulator then, their range of input voltage are more flexible, even below 5v can drive it

Hmm, can you suggest a specific part from my.element14.com so I can place the order without making mistake.(I accidentally bought smd, and also some huge resistors...)

Thanks smile.gif

After sorting out,I think u can try this,

http://my.element14.com/micrel-semiconduct...d-5v/dp/1556712

Output current 1.25A
Minimum input voltage 4.3v
Max input voltage 26v

But it cost 8 bucks

U can still purchase from element14,just click "buniness" instead of "personal",it will direct u to element14 order page like old times
