you know the real kicker? My Mom's Acer netbook that cost $999, > she got via lucky draw. Could not play 720p video without stuttering over streaming network or on the hard disk itself.

<I did not research how to solve it... but... it gives me bad vibes....>

Something cheap that started off performing below the sky high expectation. Now OC, improved software/OS stability and it is flying.

got fedup using dhcp to get da IP address, so yesterday setup a static IP... basically edit the network interface config file to set a static IP, & all the works (IP address, netmask, gateway), then check the dns server config, finally restarted the network interface. viola! static IP & no more headache trying to figure out wat IP my raspi is getting... hehe... brows.gif

still don't have time yet to play 'round wif the media player... drool.gif

cheers

your router should list your connected devices and pc?

If not then download Advance IP Scanner.

hahaha no issue ler... no poblem getting the ip from dhcp since my ip pool is small... whistling.gif

but in any case still prefer static ip for devices like this... since it's not goin' anywhere might as well
give it a permanent ip...

ya loh. Dont wait to order, immediately after stock depletion. Element14 seems to be very much on top of the game with this pi making and distribution. *the other company seems to have sporadic backorders even now.<disclaimer:just some random customer's posting that I read...to be honest kind of weird... those people ordered early and even now 5months later still complaining they yet to receive their first pi, while some Southhampton U group already put up their 64cluster supercomputer.
