has any of u using Ipad 2 to watch movies in .mkv format , 720 p & 1080p and the size of the file is about 5GB. Any lag in the picture? pixellation?
What software are u using if the movie is smooth and had no such problem at all?

Max is 720p and not compatible with some MKV files. U convert those into MP4 instead.

i heard a lot of this player as well but im worried about the false review i got from the Appstore. I bought Azul and Good Player for viewing high def video but both also can't play it smoothly. Good Player also won some awards and Azul have so many good reviewers but didn't live up to what i expected. So before i embark on AV player HD , i hope this time i can get it right .thanks.

I dunno much bout the paid playback apps on AppStore. But 1 thing i know is that lots of MKV files out there are actually H264 video stream with either OGG or AAC audio, packed into MKV file.

So what you can do is use MKVExtract to extract those streams. If the streams being output are indeed H264 and AAC, you can straight up using MP4Box frontend (eg: YAMB, MyMP4Box) to contain them into MP4 wrapper. No encoding needed.

But if the streams being output are H264 with ogg audio, then you only need to transcode the audio files before combining it with video stream, then pack into MP4 format.

*actually you can start looking the type of the streams in video playback apps (e.g: VLC > Tools > Codec Details)*

Plus note on repacking the file into MP4 container is that it has extreme compatibility with iDevices. iPad 2 can accept MP4 up to 1080p with suitable encoding profile (known as Levels for H264). On the other hand you can play those files back on Windows without any extra codec or special media player installed (Vista and 7).

I have been using AVPlayer since the first day I got my iPad 2 back in June 2011 to play all my video format from RMVB, AVI to MKV (mostly 720p). It works pretty flawless to me especially your concern is 720p and 1080p playback. Only drawback would be the display of those hardsubbed subtitle, especially my anime but other than that I have no complaints.

u r the second person to mention AVPlayer successfully play MKV format (720p) . If i don't have to convert files to MP4 than that will save me a lot of time doing it. when u meant hard subbed your subtitle , right.. why can't u just import .srt in the same name as your video name. Good Player and Azul is able to play the video without the hard subtitling as long as you have the name similar.

Usually the animes I download are hardsubbed with english subtitle so there isnt any .SRT files. Well, NOT ALL hardsubbed subtitles, only a minor which I don't really care. The reason I mention this is to be honest that AVPlayer has its flaws too and it isn't perfect. Verdict is, I never regretted spending $2.99 on it. My best buddy during my long journey hahaha. biggrin.gif

yes..a narrow ad bar. playlist max? don't know what's the max...maybe depends on how much space left you've got in your ipad.
