Looks like a solid camera phone, a pity the resolution is so poor.

u want me to tell truth... the SGN dual 1.4GHz core also i feel laggy... so got anything this world offer is PERFECT without flaws??  hmm.gif

The stock Android launcher and browser scrolling is seriously flawed. I'm 99% certain that it's the animation algorithm Google's using, so it doesn't matter if it's dual-core, quad-core it'll always lag because it's not redrawing consistently and maintaining a stable frame rate.

Google needs to hire a video game programmer to show them how to maintain a stable update-per-second and frame-per-second even if the processor is some cheapo single core, because desktop games have been doing this without problems since 1995.

Wondering why still symbian..Tot jumped ship to WP7.5 liao??

Because they worked on the 808's camera sensor for 5 years and the hardware, firmware and GPU is specially optimized for this sensor.

I think you must be using dinosaur aged Android. It has been for some time that Samsung and even Motorola reverse engineer Honeycomb browser over to 2.3.x which result in GPU acceleration for browser. Even ios also stop showing chequered boxes after v5.
*
I did say stock Android. I tested Galaxy Nexus Ice Cream Sandwich. Lags a lot compared to iOS and WP, especially with Live Wallpapers. It may be GPU accelerated but they're still using a crappy rendering feedback algorithm.

Even on the SGS2 with I think has a better GPU the home screen swiping doesnt feel as responsive as iOS.

This is not a GPU/CPU issue, it's a rendering algorithm issue.

Sometimes I wonder if Symbian really going to die.
Aside from apps, I like the recent updates to the OS (Belle).

Wonder if there's going to be a Symbian Carla as rumoured.

That's one thing great about Symbian, can send files via BlueTooth and has a proper file manager. Whereas Windows Phone and all the new Lumia "smartphones" can't.

Before Stephen Elop, Nokia had $2 billion profit a year.
Now it's $1 billion loss a year.
Everytime this guy announces something, share prices drop.
Same thing happened even with this years's MWC.

The Nokia 808 is a technological marvel, but I don't think Elop had anything to do with it. It was probably in the works for a while.

Come to think of it, without the 808, Nokia would have practically nothing exciting to announce at MWC.

Nokia hardware is still king. I don't think any other camera phone will catch up with the 41MP anytime soon.

But!

Software-wise let's be honest, Symbian is still lacking in polish, and it's not a developer priority right now. If only Elop hadn't said they're going to support it only until 2015 (2016?) then I think many developers would still think it's going to be supported for much longer.

so it will be on windows not symbian anymore like they show during their 1st reveal?

It will definitely be on the 808 which is a Symbian device.
But PureView is not specific to 808, it's an imaging technology.

I tried this phone today at the Nokia store in Gardens. UI is much smoother than expected, in fact feels faster than Android.

A pity about the price though. RM1899.

hahaha you have to try the lumia 900, the menu interface is better than android,IOS and symbian.
yup, the price is expensive with no unique free gift at the moment. Very hard to take really2 good picture with this monster, with n8 you just have to point and shoot. this one need, some customization(minor one).... oh well, no more camera, time for hd games and hd movies  wink.gif .

I disagree the WP interface is better than Android/iOS. It's smoother but that's because it doesn't render many things, mainly text and rectangular solid colours and bitmaps. Also too many limitations (Zune, no file manager, USB/Bluetooth transfer, no ogg vorbis or mkv support).

If I disable live wallpapers, use black colour wallpaper, limit my homescreen to 1 and widgets to simple ones the performance of Android also on par with WP.

That's why I am more impressed with this 808 Symbian. It doesn't cheat by just rendering rectangles and text. It has non-rectangular widgets and icons but still performs well.
