I think that's sarcasm, aspire2oo6

It still expensive IMO if its priced close to RM2k, although the camera appeals to some you can buy decent prosumer camera (like Canon Powershot S100) which priced similar or cheaper plus optical zoom to boot. I don't say it's not appeal to me, it's just I don't want to pay such price for a phone that's good for one thing.

If it using Android I might pay for that price, heck I'm willing to trade in my current Droid Razr for it, but since I have tried Belle on N8, I won't pay that much for similar experience, even with upgraded camera. Just my IMO.
*
Like i said it depends on invidividual i have a DSLR i dont need a prosumer camera. For me android is consider overpriced i rather pay for an iphone enjoy it then sell before it depreciate.

Like i said i agree similar price you only get a "camera" that only perform one thing dedicated camera so if you need to add an android phone on top of that it becomes 2.5 k to 3k right? so now you are paying 2K and u said expensive?

So now imagine you have a phone that capable to do social networking, internet, sharing, big screen, media player can install apps and for the price 2K hmm isnt that cheap that capture stunning photos. Remember the lens are not so called Sony Exmor Sensor is carl zeiss. I have a better zoom that optical zoom my legs.

Carrying a prosumer camera is tiring, NEED to charge, need make sure have an additional place to keep, make sure dont forget to boring, make sure dont drop, many places might not be able to bring because its a "camera". If drop praying in the heart hope the optical sensor dont jammed.

If i have a phone its always with me no battery can use microusb port to charge anytime, and many places can bring apa ni handphone la. I seen Nokia N8 drop from 3rd floor and survived.

Like the other guy said we travel alot to site, to factory, to cooperate office that dont allow camera and many places but with this its just a mobile phone.

For special events ill bring my DSLR out. Thats my opinion.

The 808 PureView have 3X Zoom which is similar to 3X Optical zoom quality (but without the bulky lens and zooming in-out, thus no worry of lens damage). If you read and understand the technology behind it, it's similar quality, unlike digital zoom.
As a plus, it's gives CONSTANT APERTURE of f/2.4. You don't get this with normal digital camera. Normally, digital camera when you use the optical zoom, the aperture stops down, means you loss more light, and to compensate for the loss of light, you need to decrease shutter speed and/or increase ISO.
For those who're into photography, will truly appreciate this constant aperture optical quality zoom, as normally, to get this feature, you need to spend so much more for the lens alone.

Anyway, expensive or not, it's individual. Those that feel it's expensive, then just don't buy, simple; Hehe. If the rumors of limited units is true, then I believe, it's no harm got people feel it's expensive and decided not to buy. I believe there're already many N8 owners waiting to upgrade to these, and there should also be many other Symbian users who STILL want to use Symbian, will be looking forward to these. Even my friends who already not looking at Nokia and those that already dislike Nokia, is opening their eyes for this 808 PureView.

Not sure if it's possible for it to be limited, but seeing how Nokia prioritizes and pushing Lumias, it's possible they're not really keen on the 808 PureView, probably just to cater for the "current" Symbian market demand. Plus, there're still many Symbian owners that dislike the WP, you can clearly see an Anti-WP group consist of Symbian owners, and they're also on Nokia Malaysia Facebook; So, I doubt these people will switch to WP, and might one day switch to Android; For now, at least they still have a good Symbian they can go for.

So far got any handphone camera that let us adjust aperture?
If not wrong, for N900, even with FCam, we only manage to manually adjust Shutter Speed and ISO (way exceeding the default of 400 (I think) --> extended up to 6400 lol)

Add to what aspire said, include sports stadiums as another place that dont allow cameras. I have a Canon Powershot(forgot which model) that cost RM1,200. Add a few hundred more, can get one that can make calls, go online, play games, with higher megapixel.

The 'semi pro' type of cameras, still too big and cant bring in to certain places/events. Needless to say, DLSrs are also NOT allowed on unless with media pass.

umm, the 3x zoom IS digital zoom.

works from the full 41mp res, and a 5mp area is selected which is roughly 3x zoom.

41mp res = 7728 x 5368
divide that by 3 = 2384 x 1789 = 4.6mp
3x zoom is 5mp res = 3072 x 1728

so its roughly there.

on the surface it can be categorized as digital method of zooming

if you compare to previous zooming technology, they were taking 1MP with interpolation to reach up to 5MP of zooming. this means that there's loss of quality. it's like estimating a new pixel from 2 or more pixels and estimation is not always correct.

on the other way round 808 discards unwanted pixel regions and only focus on the region that user wants to zoom in, which is still 5MP. so you don't loose any detail and the result would be similar to using optical lens to zoom the whole image on the whole 5MP sensor die.

previous method?
actually a combination of both, digital crop to the zoom ratio, then interpolate back to the res u set.
which of cos means more grainy images.
for 808 the 41mp res is strictly used only for the zoom, i dont think u can save 41mp pictures tongue.gif

Added on June 4, 2012, 12:59 pmi'm still curious on the price of 808, i went to nokia in the curve but didnt notice any dummy set...
and iirc the video light will be on during video recording?

Don't quote on me guys, its just my two cents worth of opinion. Your money is your money. I also have read the 808 whitepaper as well so I very well known the technology behind it. I'm not a professional photographer or do photography for a living, it's just my hobby to take good pictures, without wasting too much money. I will definitely buy this 808, when the price drop down in time tongue.gif

I kinda disappointed with no shutter speed control, on k850 with modded camera driver I could do 2 second shutter with low ISO at night resulting crisp images. It also appeal to make some effects as well

Hope so, if it do I will definitely buy it! For N8 it's pretty much fixed as far as I read them. But I read it could be as slow as 1/2 second from this. I guess it's just a matter of playing the waiting game.

169g is a bit heavy for a phone though although that weight is not uncommon, my friend uses HTC Evo 3D which weighted 170g, it's very heavy for me. Noticeable weight when I put it on my pocket, and won't be good to put on shirt pocket.

There is the full resolution setting that will allow you to shoot at 34MP in 16:9 and 4:3 modes. There is also the PureView mode that will allow oversampling like you request taking advantage of its lossless zoom.

Yes, I said it achieve quality LIKE Optical Zoom. It's still Digital Zoom, but not the same which what people used to know or understand.
In PureView mode (e.g. 5MP), with or without zoom, the picture you take is still 5MP. Without zoom, you get oversampling technology and it reduces as you zoom due to less sensor size is used. So at 3X zoom, you still get the TRUE 5MP quality, just like a digital camera with optical zoom.
The extra added benefit is, there is no bulky lens that's moves in out and no risk of damaging it either, and best yet, you get constant aperture zoom.

41MP is the total sensor size. Nokia has develop a new kind of sensor, which is ROUND, instead of the typical rectangular shape sensor. The purpose is to get best of both 4:3 and 16:9 crop factor mode.
So effectively, if you shoot in FULL RESOLUTION mode (without PureView), you get 38MP or 34MP depending on which ratio you choose.

Ranger seems no news for 808, seems like Nokia is concentrating, pushing and emphasizing hard on Lumia.

But I think 808 will be the hot topic during the Lumia event instead? lol tongue.gif
