Symbian was a smartphone OS from the start since the first Nokia smartphone 7650?
Smartphone is about the OS.

Smartphone evolve from Pocket PC devices - before smarpthone you need a phone and a Pocket PC.

What's a Multimedia device? MP3 Player --> Media Player (can play video, got LCD, got many brand available) --> Then add more feature like Apps support you get iPod Touch... add in phone function, you get iPhone.
Hence, why it's so different from a phone or smartphone. It's locked down and strictly control because it was a media player phone, and why you need to use iTunes... You buy a media player device, it comes with software to let you transfer songs, photos, etc. Some media player still allows you to access it's internal storage bypassing the software.
All I can say is, the entire concept or how it work deliver is different from smartphone.
When you use an iPhone, you don't feel it's like a computer, but more like a simple media device with everything ready for you and no fancy Desktop/Homescreen or those COMMON features available on a smartphone OS.

It seems the joke is slowly coming true. if you notice if people have a question they use google beside that more and more ppl are staying indoor separating reality and virtual. People are getting more dependant.

I even feel todate people cant even tell whats good and bad due to the constant brainwash by media and people.
*
Talk about getting dependent on technology, in a way, it can help and also do damage. When accident or things happen, instead of thinking or providing help, most people would? That their device, capture and upload to Facebook and hope to get attention. I start to wonder this is good or bad. If there's already people helping then maybe it's alright to record, but if everyone do nothing and record and watch, then that's...

Ok, out of topic... LoL

Sifu aspire, all those fantastic pics that's taken by 808, is it possible for us noobs to learn enuf skills to take that kinda of quality? Most of the sample pics I saw are from My Nokia Blog, I reckon the camera man is either a pro or serious amateur. Exple: I wouldnt be able to take the quality pics that you do using N8, N9 or whatever devices you use.

Just imagine a Nokia n8 its 12MP with the same image i took now imagine 808 pureview with 41MP just imagine the extra 29 MEGAPIXELS can do to that image.

Hm... How do you define good smartphone?

iPhone not one. It's more like a media phone; What people like is the smoothness, apps and games and... BRAND.

Android? It's also nothing special compared to Symbian? It just comes with more apps/games and customization.

So, in short, most people wants apps/games, and then the smoothness like iOS.

A smartphone should be able to deliver a good mobile computing experience, which was what it was since the beginning, which Symbian and Windows MOBILE (or PocketPC) comes from since the beginning and now Android.

I don't know, without full Flash experience I feel that it only an average smartphone. Customization is very important to me... Because I get bored of things very fast. I can only use something that is fixed for this long before I long for a change. Symbian provides this through CFW and I feel it is acceptable enough.

True, Symbian is lacking of Full Flash Experience. So far no browser able to bring this to Symbian yet?
Nokia N9 is lacking full flash experience as well, but they manage to bring it into FireFox browser.

well for android for now they got major support from "foc" developer like from Xda forum and etc.. bug/etc imo can be fix via custom one.

last time symbian also have the same, but due to certain reason, most dev ditch their smbian and go for android and ios lol

What to do, Symbian seems like never move/change much. Before that, it was so good, especially during the early era Symbian, even Windows Mobile.

Android is here to stay, back by the giant Google, being "open", many "foc" developer and community support, a flexible OS that supports tons of things (although still not as good as Maemo/MeeGo in certain areas, but they've been murdered by their own parents anyway, or abortion, lol tongue.gif ).
It's development and updates is also rapid unlike others. I don't see how won't be the more successful OS compared against the other 2, moreover, the other 2 OS is close-source and strictly and tightly controlled; technically the other 2 are not competitors to Android but competing against each other instead.

Maemo was doing so well and got sooo much potential.
If according to original Nokia path before Elop, Maemo was meant to be put on high end category as those previous Communicator series, moreover, it's set to be ABOVE smartphone since it's a tablet based smartphone and the OS is much more powerful than typical smartphone OS.

Yup, me too, if there just come up with a new spec that would've been great.
An amazing OS being abandon just like that and they don't give out the source for anybody else to improve it or customize it, else it's possible there will be some new device running on it.

Anyway, even Symbian is going down, only left with this 808 PureView... but seems like as though they're not keen on pushing it, despite it won the award against others and even though it captures many people's attention, even from those non-Nokia or has given up on Nokia.
Sad and I don't get the point.

Introduce PureView to US first and since there're customer also want PureView.
Let them taste it first, as a preview; Then later bring Lumia version, easier to market since already build up the publicity or interest by using the ORIGINAL 808 PureView; In a way, if the Lumia version is really not having such big sensor and such megapixel, they still able to market and sell because they have successfully printed on people mindset with 808 PureView. tongue.gif

One of the main problem with Nokia is they always give very little RAM and internal memory, which destroy the whole experience altogether.

It seems they give "just enough" or "minimum" recommended specs, and expect user to use it at minimum level. The hardware cannot be upraded (or no option for end user, not like a PC), when they give the minimum or low hardware, they end up only can tweak the software, which no matter how much you do, there is a limit and takes a lot of time, trouble and worst and finally reach a point when you can do much anymore. Moreover, users have to suffer through all these process which may take a lot of time, at the same time, damaging the product image, brand name, etc.
