Is there any card that gives 2% cashback for general transactions (apart from MBB2)?

Alliance Bank Premier Debit Card fixed 2% cash back for up to RM9K spending and Alliance Platinum Credit Card up to 2% cash back for up to RM5K spending (based on tiers).

I was at Alliance website earlier too but couldnt figure out what does the asterisk stands for. So it is based on tiers. Thanks  smile.gif
• Up to 2.0% cash back* on retail spend

Added on June 23, 2012, 12:05 amJust found the tiering, 2% only start after spending RM2,551 – 5,000  laugh.gif

In my previous article titled Earn Pocket Money with Credit Cards, I have given example on Alliance Platinum cash back based on tiers. If you don't include the reward points, the total cash back for up to RM5K works out to be roughly 1.35% (RM68.70/RM5K) but if you add the reward points, the total equivalent cash back works out to be about 1.8%. The rewards points are evergreen.

Wow, they really won't bug you to come up with more funds once your AUM falls below RM200k and no penalty too ?
*
No, not a single call from Alliance and RHB and it has been more than 9 months since my AUM dropped to below RM200K. As for penalty, I think only SCB and HSBC impose it. In my article Credit Card No.8 Fool at RWF, I mentioned that I went to surrender my RHB Premier Debit Card and cancelled my RHB Plat issued via PB but they told me to keep my cards. It seems RHB systems show my RHB Plat card annual fee waive till 2048! And the guy even told me I'll be rewarded with cash back to offset GST once I use the card - but this has yet to materilized. However so far I have been earning the monthly cap of RM50 from their 15% cash back at Imperial Group Restaurants on weekends. So I am happy that I kept the RHB Plat card.

wan to ask, if i buy 1 tablet at RM1800

Can i swipe RM900 like normal CC and pay at due date

and remaining RM900 I wan 6 month installment?

i know half cash half installment can be done. if half credit card half installment can?
*
Usually for installment plan, minimum amount RM1K if you go to places like Harvey Norman. Some merchants may allow you to pay half in cash and the remaining with installment plan. And here is another example AmBank Flexi-Pay where you can transact anywhere and convert to installment plan.

Hey all, first of all I don't have any credit cards so I have no idea how the card works.

I have one question though..

Is it really with credit card we can buy things with 0% interest with 6-12 month installment?

Is it means if I pay the installment every month on time, i will not charged on interest at all?

If this is true, is it save to say that with credit card, we can actually borrow from bank with no interest at all?

So if this true, how bank gonna make money out of me?
*
Since you are new to credit cards, I suggest you start off by reading my articles for beginners by clicking here to the prelude.

Yes, you can really buy things with 0% interest 6 to12 months installment plans. See link above for AMFlexi-Pay. And if you pay the installment on time in full, no interest will be imposed.

As for how bank earns money, well once a person has credit facility, if he/she does not have the will power to control his/her spending, then that's when the banks make money. You may want to click here and read my article 0% Interest Rate Installment Plan with Credit Cards - It IS A Trap.

Hi Just to check, Will i be penalised for late payment or interest if

Statement Date : 06/06/2012
Payment Due Date :26/06/2012

Transaction Date : 10/06/2012
Amount : RM 210.00
Status : Paid RM 200. 00

Transaction Date : 19/06/2012
Amount: 100.00
Status : Fully paid on 23/06/2012

Transaction Date : 25/06/2012
Amount : RM 80
Status : Not paid yet. ( dont appear in system)

Do i need to settle it by tomorrow to avoid interest charges or still okay?
*
Since all the above transactions are after 6/6/2012, you don't have to settle in full to avoid interest charges until 26/07/12 (assuming your next Statement Date is 6/7/12). If you have received paper statement for 6/6/2012, the Outstanding Amount stated in the Statement must be settle in full before 26/6/2012. So in the above case, you will need to settle in full RM90 prior to 26/7/12 if you don't have transactions before 6/6/12 and further transactions.

Another question,

Which bank nowadays that i can request for credit card without the need of showing income document if i place FD over them?

*If I place 15k FD
*
Just go apply credit card with the bank your business/you have account with. If they still don't want give you a credit card (subjected you meet their income and residency requirements), then go give your business to another bank.

And since you willing to pledge FD, then pledge it against your current account and get a debit card issued with that account and wau lah eh, you got RM15K revolving credit facility for your debit card tongue.gif

dear users...

was trying to apply for Maybank 2 Cards but was given 2 forms... one is the normal credit card application form...but the 2nd form i need to fill in more details like more info such as my loan, debt etc. I don't feel comfortable to reveal so many details... is it a must? according to the bank agent, he told me that this is new Bank Negara requirement?

pls help. It doesn't make sense to me to reveal everything about my personal finance to the bank at all.
*
It is not really BNM requirement. It seems that effective last month for MBB only, all applicants have to declare their financial position in a separate form.

And Bro, to be 100% sure, like zenquix said, go apply at 1U Maybankard Centre (noted that you mentioned bank agent which I assume you meant you apply at Maybank branch). Or call them - tel number posted in first page of MBB 2 Thread.

The Star - AMMB wants to acquire MBF Cards for RM623mil. It is not surprising that AMMB wiling to take over MBf since they have been working together for some time now where MBf card holder can pay their bills thru AMBank.

QUOTE(crabbypatty @ Jul 17 2012, 09:32 AM)
Hi guys. I'm trying to understand how the credit card interest rate works.

I'm planning to pay RM3000 with credit card and plan to split then pay back in 2 months; RM1500 each month. Story here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2430650

I'm using the online calculator in bankinginfo.com.my and if I put the interest rate at 15% and current balance at RM1500, the total interest charges is at RM324 and tenure to pay off is 34 months.

So does that mean that my interest charges is only RM 27 (324 / 12) if I were to pay off in the second month?

Thanks.
*
Why is there a 34 months tenure when you will settle in full on the second month?

I not very sure how it works but I here is an example:

Since you will not be settling the outstanding balance in full prior to the due date, you may be imposed interest charges from the day you make the transaction. Please note this is not necessary the case (I don't really know - some reported they are only charges interest for unpaid balance after Due Date ). So assuming your card does charge interest from the day you made the transaction.

Assuming you charge RM3K to the card tomorrow 18th July 2012, and you pay RM1,500 on 30th July 2010 and once again RM1,500 on 30th August 2012 (please note you got to add interest here to settle the debt in full, call CS to confirm the amount and add a few ringgit for payment to be cleared/captured).

18 to 30th July = 12 days
Interest = RM3000 x 15% x 12days/365days = RM14.80

1st to 30 August = 30 days
Interest = (RM3000 + RM14.80 - RM1500) x 15% x 30/265 = RM18.68

Also note, if you have Outstanding Balance after Due Date, you no longer enjoy the "interest free period" and as such any new transaction(s) with your credit card may also be imposed interest.

Anyway Bro, would appreciate is you could post here later the actual interest charges imposed after you settle in full your Outstanind Balance in full in 2-3 months time.

I checked with Citibank, Gold Card can reach 100k

I've my question here:

1) I will be relocating to middle east which allowed me to apply for platinum card. but my current salary only allowed for gold card. So, can I apply for platinum card now?

2) Which one is better, applying CC in Malaysia (where my salary will be deposit) or to relocated country (where I will mostly use the card)?
*
If I were you, I apply here and overseas and then decide later which is better.
