Joint venture to build E-ATplant in Seremban
By Kamarul Yunus
Published: 2012/02/27

KUALA LUMPUR: Akashi-Kikai Malaysia, a joint-venture firm set up by Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd with its subsidiaries Akashi-Kikai Industry Co Ltd of Japan and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), will build an electronic automatic transmission (E-AT) manufacturing plant in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

Akashi-Kikai Malaysia will put in RM100 million capital for the E-AT plant project.

"The construction of the E-AT manufacturing plant will commence in March, with operations slated to begin in November 2013," Daihatsu said in a statement to announce the establishment of Akashi-Kikai Malaysia and its equity structure among the three companies.

Perodua announced last year that it plans to replicate a RM250 million E-AT production plant by Daihatsu in Malaysia.

Last month, Perodua said it was still talking with Daihatsu on the equity structure of the joint venture company.

Under the agreed equity structure on February 17, Perodua will own 10 per cent of Akashi-Kikai Malaysia, while Daihatsu will hold a 39 per cent stake and Akashi-Kikai Industry Co a 51 per cent majority.

Akashi-Kikai Industry Co is a subsidiary of Daihatsu and cur-rently makes automatic transmissions (ATs) and continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) for Daihatsu.

The joint venture company will build and operate the 13,000 sq m E-AT plant on a 113,000 sq m land in Sendayan Industrial Park in Seremban, with a production capacity of 150,000 units a year.

While the ratio of automobiles with ATs is high in Malaysia, Daihatsu said to date, no automaker has manufactured ATs on its own locally.

"By operating the joint venture, the company aims to establish base technologies in Malaysia for the manufacture of ATs, combining quality and low cost," Daihatsu said.

nope the one aichi using is typical auto tranny, in layman term "not smart" tranny

the punch is using CVT, in other means "smart" tranny

cvt are far smoother, less fc, and less problematic as typical auto tranny

down side is cvt is not cheap to repair if tak reti jaga, once kena prepare a huge sum of amount

you can check FnF thread where those honda city owner kena wan if tak reti jaga their cvt gearbox

for sos

To those who driven a CVT car before, do you feel the gear change like you do in a traditional auto transmission?

still on about this? at least proton improved by putting stuff that what people want

instead of making new shell and put same old shit inside with no improvement

except making the car flying

It is different from those traditional Auto Trans. Less Jerk, smoother acceleration.

point to look out

proton rather outsource better reliable gearbox than making one here, as we all know, probably the gearbox vendor had something to do with "crony" in it.

while perodua? shit you not, their 2 big brother, daihatsu and toyolta, heck only in their mind is $$$$$$$$$$$$$

cheaper gearbox and cheaper quality!!!
