u experience it by yourself and few advance user and does not mean everybody tried the function yet....just u and a few.

while the 3rd party apps its waste of time as it only add fancy, the ICS just not adding fancy things but it have new feature
*
Gosh, what's your problem? Ics is not a must have update.
Just because a new version is out, doesn't mean the current version is bad.
Android is different from apple.

Weren't you craving for gingerbread last year? Recall back those moments and enjoy it now.
Enjoy the present, dun always crave for future.

I have a feeling next year you will be crying for jellybean and complain how shitty ics is.
Funny la you!

biggrin.gif lets get this straight.... do ICS and GB have differences?

YES or NO
rolleyes.gif sup dawg...problem? no liek then report me
*
Ics got difference?
My opinion is, on a powerful phone like s2, won't have big major improvement. but any improvement, is always good to have.

on weaker hardware, like galaxy tab 10.1, with lausy tegra2 processor, the difference is HUGE.
i'm running leak ics rom on it, although leak and incomplete, its MUCH MUCH better than stock honey comb, even the best custom rom for tab10.1 is slower than ics.

so the more shitty your phone is now, the bigger difference ics makes.

I would think the shutter lag is software related. I noticed using the ICS leak rom on my Note, the shutter lag has improved tremendously and is very close to G nexus now
*
Yeah!! Thanks for confirming. biggrin.gif

After using phone for half a year, finally flash my first custom rom.
Miui.

My god.....flashing rom takes sooooooo long.
Nandroid backup about 20 mins, now titanium backup, I think half hour d, still 50% only

How you guys do it? Always flash diff rom, isn't that time consuming?

Wow how many apps you got there. Try doing nandroid to internal SD for me its faster. TB for me not more than 10  mins.
*
Nandroid by default is save to internal SD.

In titanium backup state I got 281 app.
Maybe that's why so long,

Play with miui for awhile. Big big culture shock!
The launcher sucks till the max. There is no app tray.

Everything is just....weird.
The only thing nice is when you lock screen, got a 'old TV get turn off' animation which is really really cool.
Other than that, it really is a downgrade compare to touch wiz.

No task manager, stupid launcher.
Animation all equally smooth with stock touch widz.

I see no reason to stay in that rom, restoring with cwm now. :-)
Now if only I can get that lock screen animation. Got to start Google about it.

Depending on CWM version, some nandroid default to external sd unless you choose backup to internal sd.

I backup 300++ system and user app in less than 10 mins to a class 4 external sd card. Dunno why yours so long.
*
i duno what version cwm i'm having.
but its strange, one moment its orange, one moment later its blue.

why mine so slow one? 300apps less than 10 mins?
backup to external sd card faster than internal usb storage?
if like that i also wana backup to sd card, how to set o?

You should have know that about MIUI before you flash it, wonder why that are the reasons you restore back.
Even in MIUI you can change to other launcher if you want, maybe you already get used to TouchWiz that's why you feel MIUI is not good.
*
i did read about miui before i flash
http://android.appstorm.net/reviews/roms/1...rom-perfection/

well aware of the launcher. but just want to try anyway.

ever since i found out about cwm and about nandroid recovery,
become dare devil already haha, wana try out other roms see what they look like.

reviews are nice, but need to really test it only know how they feel.
my first choice was cyanogenmod, but people here say its too basic and worst than stock touch widz.
after some reading, realize miui very famous and deserve a try. so i try lo.

i'm very happy with touch widz, just wana try other rom due to curiosity and the fun of it.
weekend ma, very free nothing to do. icon_rolleyes.gif

after the ics update, S2 memory will remain the silly 3 layer memory?
or will combine become one layer? like in honeycomb tablets and nexus

sucks that the system memory just 2gb, always full and need to move to sd.

It would be as follows for memory:

Internal SD card : 1 size only
Total 16GB no partitioning

External SD card: As is and not included in internal partition, mount/remount separate.
*
wow, this is great!
dont have to use move to sd card anymore

how you know this? you using a leak ics rom on s2 now?

I'm using a very nice dictionary app,
it is OFFLINE dictionary, has very very good explanation of words, and sample sentense. the best that i can find, equally good compared to real hard copy dictionary.

tried some free offline one from market and they are crap in terms of usability. either some words dun have, or explaination too brief.

the app is called
Diodict COllins CObuild Advanced dictionary of english
download it from samsung apps store, got many language, make sure choose english to english one.

when i try to backup the apk using astro file manager, it always fail.
so when i try to recomend to friends, i cant send them the apk, they need to go download themself from samsung app store.

when i was trying out other roms, i backup it using titanium backup, but during restore, it always hang.

after reading abit about it, i think its a app for Bada OS

http://www.samsungapps.com/topApps/topApps...id=G00000248484
the android version has the exact same icon as this.

maybe samsung made a android version for it and its only available in samsung TW phones.

i was hoping its possible to extract the apk, so i can install it in non TW roms.
got any other way to make an apk from an installed app, other than astro file manager?
i hope to try, its really THE BEST dictionary app.

there are some risk for those who always flashing end up clearing up everything
but i would prefer if they actually extend the 2gb partition
*
actually one big partition is better. no need to worry about move to sd or internal overfull.

htc sensation also receive ics, wonder how is their memory arrangement. wait a sec, SE xperia series have ridiculous internal memory, sweat.gif 320MB if not mistaken, how on earth they goin to squeeze ics inside? hmm.gif

guess we cant guess too much, just wait and see how things go. rolleyes.gif

yes i am also using this dictionary. diodict makes very good dictionary. i am using one of its paid one for other languages. its quite good. there is also a free malay-english dict by diodict in samsung app store
*
hi anttoo,

i'm not trying to promote this dictionary.

the thing i wan to know is how to backup this app, or how to make an apk for this.
so that i can use in other rom that is non touch widz.

i tried to restore this app in MIUI, and it always fail (hang) in titanium backup.

Dunno never try with other rom apart from samsung base rom. But I had use diodict with CM7 on my HD2 and it works fine. But so far I know it have problem with ICS, cannot start. Probably still incompatible with ICS.
*
blink.gif how you install diodict in CM7?
titanium backup manage to restore?
or you manage to install samsung app store in cm7?

Hi guys. Anyone here ever experience using extended battery? I've read sumwhere two types of extended battery :
1) higher capacity battery include back cover
2) external battery with back cover (plug in to the phone)

Mind explaining the pro n cons. Intend to get one. Before buy need to ask all sifu here.

Thanks a lot
*
i recomend you buy portable charger like yoobao, mili, or mipow.
always change battery very troublesome.

base on own experience, i bought spare battery but seldom use.
portable charger easier to carrier around than a plain battery.

1. For me, always get the bigger battery such as the 2000 mah one if you really prefer on the go.
2. If you don't mind a little weight, you can get Yoobao extended battery but buy the original one. Fake ones are very much cheaper but you know what I mean la  laugh.gif

So, question: Do you mind carry some weight or a pouch or a fixed in battery? Choice is in your hands biggrin.gif
*
Completely agree!
in mid august last year, that time sgs2 still new and the 2000mAh official batt not exist yet.
i try to look for spare battery also hard.

then in mines got one shop sell. that idiot claim its original, charge me rm150 for it.
that time no choice so i buy lo.

but after long usage, i realize its just about 1/2 of original 1650mAh battery capacity.
i feel conned. i went to complain but got ignored. got pics of the battery in this link below.
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2005606&hl=

ironically, that shop was renovated and became SEP.
mad.gif *&@%@$!%

after several months, in SEP got sell the REAL ori battery, both 1650 and 2000mAh ones.
the packaging is very different from the one i bought. the one i bought pack up like pasar malam on only.
just that got a "ori" samsung shining sticker.

sigh.... cry.gif

so if you want to buy battery, buy ori one!
if not get con like me cry.gif

wana add abit and elaborate about the "problems" with 2 battery.
if you have 2, hard to maintain, cos need swap battery and charge both.

example batt A & B full.
using batt A.
batt A almost finish
swap to batt B,
end of the day batt B almost finish,
so plug charger and charge batt B, need wait batt B finish charge remove,
swap batt A, wait it charge to finish.

to avoid such "trouble", need buy external charger, again extra cost.
thats why i recomend portable chargers.

but the final decision is up to you, just share my experience. :-)
