Hmm I followed the step via Odin and it rebooted and I saw there's a superuser icon.

Does that mean superoneclick is not required? Superoneclick is another method of rooting I assume.

And sorry for being noobie but what's kernel and flashing roms?
*
Yeah you should be rooted. And yeah that's a different method. Tell you what, try downloading an app that requires root and see when you launch if it prompts you for root. A superuser popup should appear.

ROM = term loosely used for operating system. When we say flash ROM, we're generally referring to a custom ROM, i.e still Android but modified/developed by someone/people.

You have the one that looks like stock : CynogenMod
You have the one that looks, erm, abit like iPhone : MIUI
And you have ROMs based on samsung's ROM : Checkrom, Turkbey, etc

Kernel = The jazz which manages the internals of your phone, like your CPU and what nots (excluding connection, that's handled by modem/baseband).

So once again, ppl out there "cook" kernels up based on existing kernel codes of samsung and they add/modify stuff. Purpose of flashing this is for better peformance/battery life

Haha can't tell bro, haven't used it extensively + I've never used RP for a day yet laugh.gif

Need antt's feedback, assuming he still keeps Siyah over the coming week laugh.gif

Both are ok to a certain extent. Just switch to any when you feel that it is laggy. For me, I'm currently using OndemandX (which is ondemand on Siyah).
*
I'm on ondemand for Siyah, how do I go about setting a screen-off limit to 200mhz unsure.gif

Not particularly versed in script, can briefly walk me through it? tongue.gif

Siyah's ondemand already limits it to 200MHz actually. No need to do anything from there.
*
Hmm schedulers won't affect it right?

I reset CPU spy and immediately turn off screen. I still get frequency readings in the other ranges. Over 10 seconds in 500mhz unsure.gif

I'm on siyah .13

Edit : Hmm I'll go test it properly again. Did off secure mode so I don't waste time entering pattern and all to unlock device and get to CPU Spy. Did it over few mins and did get some readings in 500 and 800, but a little less. Maybe when I on and press CPU spy I guess (I offed the screen in apptray, so press on and terus press CPU Spy)

Further edit : Got more than 10 seconds after 5 mins off procedure above on 800mhz. Hmm doubt pressing on and hitting CPU spy takes more than 10 seconds. Not too sure rclxub.gif

But thanks for the tip smile.gif lulz in siyah has 200mhz cap for screen off too?

Maybe it's not 200MHz but 500MHz. I forgot. Lulzactive needs to be tuned for that. It's the screen off min step (which is tuned in ThunderBolt! to be 200MHz or 500MHz, I forgot).
*
QUOTE(antt00 @ Mar 4 2012, 05:47 PM)
Ondemand on siyah default suspend freq is 500 mhz.
*
Hmm not sure where my 800mhz is coming from though. Lol I'll see if I can set it somewhere. Hmm maybe I'll try lulzactive since that has an app and makes it easier for me laugh.gif

But if ondemand and I wanna tweak it, where do I go to?

You can tweak from ThunderBolt!'s script smile.gif
*
Ah ok.

Can I use text editor in root explorer to edit values in the scripts?

K sorry for asking this, but I'm a little clueless.

So I'm guessing I go to thunderbolt screenstate scalling. Then down to point 4 where
CODE
# ==============================================================
# ==============================================================
# step [4] tweaks to the governor while screen is OFF (phone in idle or doing its thing on its on)
# ==============================================================
# ==============================================================
# ==============================================================
# limiting the max/min frequencies [not used by default]
# ==============================================================
# =========
# set maximum & minimum frequency to 100 & 400 MHz - that should hopefully be enough for DSP effects & prevent buggy apps from draining the battery too much
# =========
#echo "400000" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
#echo "100000" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq

I remove # from the 2 echo lines, and change the max and min frequency to 200000?

Is 800 alot?  Siyah Kernel enter sleep at 800mhz.
*
Not to say super alot. didn't monitor off screen long enough. About 15 seconds over 5 min off screen time previously.

Oh meaning when entering into sleep it has to go up to 800mhz first? Thought as long screen is off the max freq or whatever is 500mhz etc

It goes to 800 first then enter sleep. The 500 freq pikachu was refering to is the screen off max freq. They are diff.
*
Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. So regardless it'll go to 800, before going to sleep, then subsequently on wake it'll be at a max of "x" value, before going to 800mhz right before sleep, right?

I dun think you need screenstate scaling for siyah ondemand. It have its own sleep freq.
CODE
echo 200000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/suspend_freq

Look for this line.
*
Ah found it. It's at 500000.

Erm, what's the difference between the previous min/max scalling vs suspend_freq.

Notice they're in different locations also (cpu0 vs cpufreq)

That one is setting your max and min freq like 100 - 1200 or 200 - 1200 etc. If lets say the governor got no sleep mode then you can use screenstate scaling to limit min and max freq when in sleep. Sort of like setcpu sleep profiles.
*
Ah ok, some governers have no deep sleep? blink.gif

Btw I went to the directory itself and saw the 500000. Assuming I want to change it I should be finding the script somewhere, and not manually amend the file in that directory? If so, where's the script ah >_<
Sorry real bad at this script/int.d stuff

Not sure leh. I use my own script. Let me see through pika's script. Get back to u.

Ah thanks rclxub.gif

But basically don't amend the file in that directory kan? Always use script to echo?

Haha I'm actually waiting for the app as well

But assuming you don't stick to siyah in the future, guess it's good to know a little about scripts, although there's a learning curve sweat.gif

I cannot find it.  rclxub.gif You can manually add that line in thunderbolt main script S98system_tweak. Its a long script so use pc with notepad++ if possible. There is some ondemand tweaks at the bottom of the script.

Added on March 4, 2012, 7:31 pm
Xan's app can only change general settings like those in bolt_siyah script. Governor specific setting still need to use scripts. Gokhan wanna keep the app simple.
*
Aduhs pengsan

So add
CODE
echo 200000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/suspend_freq
to system tweak at te end using notepad++, then delete the old one, move new one into init.d balik with root explorer, and change permissions?

And reboot. Got it. Init.d runs at boot right? Don't need to use script manager or whatever to run it as root etc

Having a suspend frequency of 500MHz is alright. 200MHz might be too low causing devices to keep being awake for a longer time when doing a task.
*
Hmm true, I'm gonna leave it for now, tak mahir script x.x

But assuming wanted to add, have to add to a specific section, or can just add line below as another script running at the end?

And say I open a script file, some scripts are left margined, while others are indented inwards. Does the indent and all make a difference? unsure.gif

You can add it to the matching ondemand place. If you get what i mean.
*
Ah add to the section where ondemand script is? Like below this?

CODE
if [ -e /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold ]; then
 echo "85" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold;

But that's if up_threshold something (don't know what -e is), not related to suspend freq. But assuming that script looks for the value, executes script, then guess adding it below there is fine as well, since it'll run anyways? rclxub.gif
