The main usage of Topre springs are for switch actuation.
Feeling of Topre comes from the domes. Since KT and Topre domes might be quite similar, there was an argument that they are cheap Realforce.

im still contemplating on buying my first mechanical kb

but still deciding between brown and black switch

definitely do not want blue switch as it is too loud ...

can anyone give me more in depth advice on whether to choose between brown and black?

from what i gather .. both brown and black is quite similar? correct me if im wrong.

basically what i want is something not too loud. i dont mind ABIT of noise but i guess my usage is in between typing (write reports/msn) and some slight gaming (Diablo3/LOL)

thanks

brown and black have vast difference in typing feel.

Black - Stiff Linear (60g actuation force, without a bump)

Brown - Soft Tactile (45g actuation force, with a bump)

head over mech keyboard club v4 to know more regarding mechanical switches.

best way is to test it out ur self. biggrin.gif if you dont want it to be too loud, get some o rings. definitely reduces the noise levels.

Basically when you get mechanical keyboard, its going to be noisy if you have the habit of bottoming the whole key, happens to all people who just bought mechanical keyboard, jumping ship from rubber dome ala cheapo keyboard, but IMO, its self preference to bottom whole key or not.

Want quiet? Probably black/red, non tactile non clicky, but black requires 65g actuation force, red requires 45g.

The keyboards with the ANSI/US layout tend to have "Enter" with the arrow on the key. But the keyboards in Europe (ISO or otherwise) may leave "Enter" out and have just the arrow - the latter is probably what sulfuriq was using when he was in the UK. Below is a Model F with German layout - no "Enter":

I believe the SIIG MiniTouch came in two different types of switches: white ALPS and blue Montereys. The latter is more highly regarded and, I believe, more difficult to find.
The keyboard that I'm selling has blue Monterey switches. Light, crisp, and precise key action. Very tactile and clicky!

I'm thinking of getting a cheap one first, to see how it feels.
Thinking of either brown switch since it has no noise feedback.
Might be using it at the office.
