Hmm to prevent that u have to use the UV-something flat coat. But take notice to only use it on white (painted or not) parts because it also added slightly whitish powder on the surface thus making it not suitable for parts with color other than white

Naah noob here too (rarely paint my kits). The reason I know about it was I once mistook this for normal flat coat, and used it to coat my MG Strike Freedom, resulting in "snow" haha sad.gif

I thought flaking only occurs when you try to do top coat when it is humid. Does it really have anything to do with the UV topcoat you are using?

I have been using "Future" as topcoat for quite a while cause its cheap. I wonder if i can deal with the yellowing effect by switching to other brand of paint for the white.

Haha it's not flaking lah.. just that UV top coat will give slightly powdered look if u applied it on non-white area

Guys may I ask, I understand that top coat our gundam after painting is important to protect the paint itself, but, if we're using spray can (like gundam color spray can, tamiya color spray), do we still need to top coat it afterward?

Reason is... I notice when I use Mr. Color's dull top coat, the color use to change to much lighter, and sometime got a thin layer of white dust on top of it...

Yes, it goes for any method of painting...
the white dust is frosting...
this usually occurs when using spray can, AB very rare..
you'll need to shake it very well or warm the can so the airflow is smoother and do not spray on a humidity atmosphere. Using spray cans for topcoat have to be careful as it gets frosting easily.

thanks for this smile.gif

However, I planned to use the tamiya 'Pearl White' to spray on my new gundam's amor plate (which looks very nice white color)

In such case, spraying top coat will definitely spoilt the color, what should I do?

Another reason is I'm using tamiya weathering tool to create the 'shading' effect, so definitely need another layer of spray to 'lock down' the weathering color...

you still can topcoat cause there's 3 types of top coat(flat, semi-gloss, gloss) flat will definitely cover the pearl effect so either semi or gloss, that's up 2 u.

Are you doing shading with pearl color? both don't really suit each other IF you doing on a same kit.
You can use weathering tool to create the shading effect but you have control it very well.. Before we use weathering tool, we spray a layer of flat first because then only will the weathering stick on it.
after weathering, you can spray another coat to "lock" the weathering which you are right but you can also skip if you want to and of cos the weathering will not be "lock tight" biggrin.gif

what I planned to do is...

1. Spray a layer of premier white. (This one cheaper mah...)
2. Use weathering effect to do 'shading'
3. Spray my pearl white on.
4. top coat.

The reason I choose pearl white is because it's radiantly shining... .looks lovely....

Can I check with you, semi gloss or gloss top coat wont make your kit 'KILAT KILAT' !? I remember this is a big problem with Tamiya's normal spray can... after the spray it looks so plastic... sad.gif

btw, tonight I will show 1 pic how I use weathering tool to do shading effect. not very obvious though sad.gif sad.gif
