New owner here. Just bought an sealed Nokia N9 (Cyan) from a LYN trader. smile.gif

Apparently official Nokia stores aren't allowed to sell it anymore, so I had to go through Garage sales.

welcome to d club! but..
what is this bullshyt? official store are not allowed to sell n9 anymore?

I went to a few Nokia-branded stores in KL, they all told me it's been discontinued. Some of them still have old stock, but not allowed to sell with warranty I think.

Seems quite different from N9's GUI. But don't see any Android-killer features yet.

How much you bought it?

RM 799.

I'm trying Wazapp now (Wazapp 0.9.13 N9 beta). Having problems syncing all my contacts. Seems like only part of my contacts were synced.

Rebooted a few times. Tried on both WiFi and 3G. Although when I asked one of my contacts who did not appear on my contact list to try sending me a message through WhatsApp, I managed to get it.

can u try to add +60 at ur affected contact ?
*
Doesn't work. But if I re-register on my iPhone, all my contacts appear on the iPhone.

Where does WhatsApp get the contacts from? The N9 Contacts app? I'm not sure if this is related but all my Contacts were imported from Google Mail for Exchange accounts.

Yes, from your phonebook. Check and see if you have all your contacts in your N9.
*
Okay I think I may have found a fix. I noticed that the contacts that could not be synced had spaces (' ') or braces ('(') or other funny symbols.

Then I tried
1) Editing the phone number to remove all funny characters except the plus (+) at contacts.google.com
2) Re-synced my Google Exchange account to update the Contacts.
3) Re-sync my WazApp account.

After that they appeared.

Thanks everyone. biggrin.gif

Since Nokia dun give a damn to customer. I also dun give a shit to Nokia too. I wish the all best for Jolla, and make sure Nokia regrets for what they done for the past few years.

Waiting the Sailfish OS to port into my N950.  rolleyes.gif

In terms of hardware design, Nokia's still the best though. I blame their Stephen Elop and his new management for killing off MeeGo and Symbian. They had great engineers but Elop caused them many of them to jump ship.

TS sklchan still hasn't added me to the owner list. sweat.gif

Anyway here's my mini-review of the N9 vs iPhone 4 after using it for a few days.

Pros
- Design is a lot better. Attracts less dirt and smudges. My iPhone 4's glass back is a smudge magnet and it scratches easily.
- No need iTunes to add files, just use USB or Bluetooth.
- The rubber-like casing that came with the N9 is great, fits the polycarbonate colour and it doesn't seem to get smudged or dirty at all.
- AMOLED screen makes colours look vibrant, and the contrast ratio is great - blacks look a lot blacker than on the iPhone 4.
- UI is unique. I can see where Windows 8 RT got their ideas from. E.g. The swiping down to close apps.

Cons
- Built in Facebook app sucks compared to the latest iOS version.
- Web browser performance isn't as good as Safari even both use Webkit.
- Battery life is quite poor compared to my iPhone 4.

Overall though quite happy with my N9 and it has replaced my iPhone 4 as my main phone. smile.gif

If I turn on Power Saver Mode all the time with GSM enabled but no 3G, I managed to get > 24 hours with minimal usage. smile.gif

But not sure if it affects the rate I get my notifications and WhatsApp messages. They seem slower?

GSM is the slower network compared to 3G. anything related to internet will be albeit slow..yeap, including WhatsApp/wazapp
*
Sorry, to clarify what I mean is not the speed at which the data is downloaded, but the update intervals. For example sometimes I see when I enable Power Save Mode the Wazapp seems to be Offline.

i see..never use it. IIANM, power saver disable background data, which required by Wazapp

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks.

By the way any of you planning to purchase a Nokia Windows Phone as your next phone? Since the Lumia design is the closest thing to the N9's. I know the OS is very different, but at the moment all the Android ones seem a little dull to me.

Well folks, it's time to put my N9 in storage. Just bought a Lumia 920 and I don't think I'll be using my N9 again anytime soon.

There's still some things the N9 does better, like searching for music/contacts, but overall WP8 is a lot smoother and responsive. Plus, the WhatsApp client is official so I don't have to worry about Wazzap failing whenever the protocol changes.

And before anybody asks, no, I won't be selling my N9. It's a unique phone and I plan to keep it forever. smile.gif

My plan is to get a 920 too, how is the phone??
Before WP8, I would not have recommended Windows Phone to anybody. The WP7 phones had a lot more limitations - no Bluetooth file transfer, no USB Mass Storage, everything had to be done through Zune. The WP7 homescreen was also a lot more limited, no resizable tiles at all.

But now WP8 has overcome these limitations and it's a lot smoother than the N9's MeeGo. I know some people are waiting for Jolla's new Linux mobile OS, but realistically I think if you want a phone that's fast and has similar build quality to the N9, Nokia's Lumia flagships are the way to go.

If you really prioritize customization however, then go for Android. However the WP8 homescreen tiles can customized more or less with free apps. Here's my home screen:

If you are a Linux user or depend a lot on Google services (Gmail, Docs, Google+) then I think Android would be a better choice than WP8.

Since I already tried iOS, Android and MeeGo before, And I already had a Windows/Hotmail account, I decided to give WP8 a try.

Maybe I'm lucky - I haven't had any problems with WiFi or WhatsApp. Although there are lots of minor annoyances as mentioned the overall improvement in performance is good enough an upgrade for me.
