Since N9 and L800 has 8-meg camera, which one is better at taking photographs,or are they both the same in term of quality and functionality(as in, auto-focus wise)?

Can someone tell me the difference(for the screen/protector) between L800's Nokia ClearBlack display and N9's Anti-glare polariser?

And I remember many pages back, you guys touched on the radio functionality for N9 - has there been an app/update that offers N9 to receive and play the radio?
*
Camera wise I don't think there is enough difference between N9 and Lumia 800 to base your decision on.

However the audio quality of N9 is great while that of Lumia 800 through headphones is very poor with no bass and muddy sound. If you listen to music on your phone this will be a deal breaker.

There is already a good FM radio app for N9 with presets.

Bro, any where to have a lunar calendar in N9?

Not that I know of. There may be one in the China Nokia store but I have no idea how to access it. Maybe you can ask in Maemo.org, it seems to be an international site and I know there are some Chinese there. Btw, N9 is a hit in China!

Can't believe that people still can debating so actively for a phone that almost 2 years in the market, 3 years if consider 900/950.

Anyway, upgrading to PR1.2......38% so far...good luck to me ahaha

It could be that the feature set for PR1.3 is frozen so that can't accept any more bug reports. Maybe it will be re-opened for PR1.4. If we are going to have PR1.4...

It's kind of scary because there is just one developer who has made the breakthrough and is working on it. He hasn't posted in a week. Everything depending on him now.

Earpiece headphone. Does it have to be some special earpiece to take advantage of the NFC's touch & connect?

Charging. I suppose it uses the standard micro USB of any other Nokia phone?
*
You need an NFC headphone like the Nokia BH-505.

Charging is through standard micro-USB. You can use any Nokia car charger.

I am not sure if the official price (RRP) has dropped because the one in Gardens is official Nokia store. The 2nd store in Megamall is also Nokia's official store.

Nice review. But you are mistaken that N9 has no FM radio. N9 has FM radio hardware and there are a few FM radio apps in ovi store. There is also an app where you can use the Volume + button as a a camera button.

N9 now has flashplayer with firefox, something you don't get in Lumia. This opens up a lot of sites with embedded video and other functions like ticket booking. N9 can do video calls, Lumia can't. Calligra to edit MS Office docs is coming to N9 soon.

Another important difference - Nokia Maps has offline navigation for N9 but must be online for Lumia 800. Surprise!

The price of 16GB N9 has dropped to RM1500 if you shop around.

N9 did not have an FM Radio app when it was first released. There are a few now. Those who want a free one can try QML Radio.

The location of the Volume+ button as camera key is not ideal but workable. It shows the sort of hacks you can do with MeeGo which are out of bound to WP7 as a totally closed OS.

Next update for offline navigation is not good enough. Users do not like to wait a long time for something they can already get from the competition.

Microsoft seems to have made some basic mistakes in WP7.5. There is only one master volume control so turning down your music volume also turns down your ring volume. Wifi connection will cut off when it goes to lockscreen so any background updates will use 3G if available or no updates. You also can't save draft sms messages.

The N9 like all Nokia Symbian phones have alarms which work even if the phone is off. Lumia is step backwards here.

One more thing, ICS is being ported to N9. It is already bootable and developers are making services and sensors work on it. This will be a game changer.

First of all I would like to thank everyone offering to translate. When I come to the point of adding translations I would definitely refer to these posts. And in addition to those translations offered, I would do Arabic translations myself

As for the current progress, I did say a usable version would be ready last week, but I never said it would be released tongue.gif Because a usable version does not necessarily pack essential features for a public release. For instance, I wouldn't release a usable version without message notifications

I understand many people are eagerly waiting for using whatsapp on their N9/N900 (including me), and I'm doing my best to deliver that project. But as many people realize here I'm only doing this in my free time; which unfortunately is not full time at the moment.

So, this is my aimed list of features for the first public release:

* Message delivery indicators
* Chat logging
* Editing Status
* Only 1 to 1 Conversations
* Contacts sync
* Integration with Accounts manager
* Integration with Meego's notifications
* Running the app in background

As for whether the project is going to be opensource or not. It is going to be opensource when the first release goes out, except for registration code.

So the big question: "When is this going to be". I'll see how the progress goes this weekend and will tell you on Monday.

For camera buffs, Fcam with HDR is coming to N9. Don't know what it means, maybe sifu Andy or sifu Aspire can explain.

Is it the full FCam?
I wouldn't know head or tail. The Fcam library is already available for MeeGo-Harmattan developers here:

Well, no need to tell Microsoft. The market will tell them until they get the message. If they don't the market will take care of their OS. Let's see if WP7 can improve its market share this year from its miserable 1.9% last year.

Wow! what a debate. Time to cool it. As I said, let the market decide. Personal preferences don't matter and debate can go on endlessly. What matters is whether Microsoft can capture a significant market share with their WP7 design philosophy. I'm sure they are not doing WP7 for a hobby and they want as many users as possible. So success will depend on whether a considerable number of users choose WP7 over the competition and I don't think 1.9% is there yet.

By embracing WP7 Nokia will fail to tap into their huge base of Symbian users who want to upgrade. Those coming from Symbian will find WP7 too limiting. No widgets, no homescreens, no themes. Too little customization. No mass storage mode and no micro-SD. Even basic features like bluetooth transfer, wifi hotspot and internet tethering are not available in Lumia. For developing countries where Nokia has a strong brand name a requirement for a PC which can run Zune is an obstacle. Cloud services doesn't sell in countries where data charges are high.

The real debate should be whether Nokia made the right choice to focus on WP7. 3 years ago making the wrong choice will just slow down your growth but in the high pace industry now it can kill you very fast.

Nokia N9 is not designed for simple user but more for advanced user let me repeat without any LIMITATION.

I disagree on this point. N9 can be for simple user or advanced user. You have a choice whether you want to install developer mode or not. If you are a power user you can use terminal to do many things. This is what Andy is saying - choice instead of dumbing down.

White N9 thumbup.gif

And guys, I know Lumia900 and N9 no connection, but it's a phone from nokia, if people were to get L900 - N9 will have slower sales, harder to sell if the price doesn't drop a little bit. Not to mention Nokia is going all out to promote the Lumia series, so N9 should see a steady decline in price this as more Nokia-windows phone releases..no? hmm.gif
*
Actually N9 and Lumia 900 cater to different market segments so popularity of one does not affect popularity of the other. I think the price of N9 is stable now as it has dropped considerably from launch price. Nokia won't drop price to push N9 sales as they prefer to sell more Lumias than N9s. if you intend to get an N9 now is as good a time as any.
