a big disaster for my X42DE..previously i asked for guide on how to open up the laptop...and i did it..reapply the thermal paste..screw back eveything...and there goes the sad part..laptop can turn on..but then no activity at all..black screen without anything at all..no blinking hdd indicator..fan spinning..HDD sounds like running..ram changed and test..also same thing..just the power led and caps lock led are light up...i suppose either mobo or processor fried..any recommendation to perform before i send it to ASUS..warranty over already sad.gif

from my experience which happens all the time. check back your connection especially those small2 stuff and also your connection for display(to the monitor) sometimes it's just that. If you can't trouble shoot disassemble and re-assemble back smile.gif. Should do fine. Proc isn't easy to fry no worries. Except if you spill thermal paste or applied too many thermal paste and it leaks to the pins on the proc . other than that you should be fine smile.gif just some minor problem. well thats what i hope smile.gif good luck.

hi, but my thermal paste i used is eletrically non coductivity..so i doubt it wont affect? maybe is because of the display adapter connectors that i never removed..cause asus used a very sticky tape to hold it..so i did not removed it..

but is it possible that because of the connector there's no hdd response or when i plug out to a monitor also no response at all?
*
Probably just tighten back the connection, any lights up? power cable maybe? the one connecting from ur power button to the mobo?

yeah that's why I am getting it fixed. Might order the part directly from China and then DIY. smile.gif I'd say STILL a good offer. But yeah if not for my luck on drivers it would have been a better offer wink.gif

what problem does it have now?

ade guna cooler tambah satu kipas besar tapi xde function pun sama je
i'm using about 2 years already

i'm suspecting that it might need thermal repasting but do check ur CPU temp first with hwinfo smile.gif it's a free software download. Just run the software and see your temp til when ur laptop will automatically shut down.

If the temp is the cause of it, it's normal because rather than burning the laptop it has cutoff which automatically switches off the laptop at certain temp (CPU max temp i think usually is around 105C - 108C)

hope it helps smile.gif

Hey guys, im not a regular here so forgive me if i asked something tht has been asked

My n45sf, even after update the latest bios 22x from asus site, i play dota 2 with everything low it still lags like crazy. Some user said underclock to 630 mhz , i did uc with msi afterburner but it still lags really really bad

Any idea guys? Currently running nvidia's latest 320.49 whql driver

just wondering ur laptop comes with the i7 variant or i5

and is the gpu is NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M with 1GB/2GB DDR3 VRAM

but above all is ur ram.

Some games are GPU stressing, some games stresses the CPU more and mostly needed more ram.

I'm guessing ur ram? as i am also playing dota 2. and a friend of mine is using an old asus laptop which has i think GT 3XX GC of course most settings are at lowest. Laggy as hell when it was only 2GB ram, helped him upgrade to 6GB ram and dota 2 seems to be decent on his laptop now.

Also check the temperature of the GPU and CPU. smile.gif

mine is the i5 variant
with 4gb ram

as for gpu ram, it's 1gb
why?

my friend's n53sv with gt540m could play dota 2 at high textures with bloom and water quality on, shadow at medium with no problem. fps lock at 30..
without aa of course

mine well... everything is lowest possible and it still lags like crazy

already force open with nvidia gpu (in nvidia control panel) still the same
*
Yeah was just eliminating any possible cause for that lag. GT555 should be more than enough to run dota 2 at high.

Maybe you could try to clean uninstall the driver then reinstall back?

Also maybe make sure that not the steam that opens with nvidia but dota 2.

One way to know either it's on integrated GPU and not discrete is to check the GPU temp itself. Probably it while launching dota 2 it didn't kick in the GT555?

If it does, probably the temp itself? maybe too high?

it was a clean install, just formatted a day ago
about the gpu not so sure, when launch dota 2, the vent there not very hot. in fact its like around 50~60c
*
are u in a aircond room?

If it really uses the GT555 it's a good news coz the temp is really low. But might be the optimus ? it didn't from integrate to discrete gpu. even if u start dota 2 via nvidia

nope no aircond, only fan
im not really sure if its using the gt 555m
*
most likely it is not using the GT 555M? it's impossible that even at low setting the game is laggy.

how do i find that out?

found this though

i'm not so good either with optimus since i've never really had one before. Only helped couple of friends. But this might be able for u to find out

Download EVGA precision X -> Run dota 2 - > See the speedometer on EVGA precision X. If it seems like it's idle, then it's on integrated gpu.

hope that helps tho
