hi all,

i am interested in buying alpine head unit, im interested in buying cda-9887 but it does not equipped with usb connectivity.

which alpine has functions almost as good as cda-9887 but with usb and aux in connectivity with 2 4v preouts possibly? (1 to 2ch amp for speakers, and 1 for active subwoofer)

ive been searching for models but couldn find the exact one

if other brand is to be considered, it would eclipse. i only interested in either of these 2. not pioneer, kenwood etc.

im going for good clean power audio setup for SQ, correct or advise me if im wrong.

help is appreciated

basically the 9887 and 117 is identical, just 117 add in usb and ipod, then take out the crossover features...while 9887 got built in active crossover but no usb.

adding a usb adapter for 9887 will cost u around 600++....if u wan a good unit with usb and crossover built in, 9887 + crossover will be around 17-18++...which let u have the usb and the active crossover....if u choose the 117, it's around 13-14++ but without crossover....

if got money, get the 1 with crossover...

ah i see now, ive seen cde-117 on the market, very interesting.

anyway, what do i get from active and passive crossover?

the amp im looking at has built in crossover if im not mistaken, so does it make built in crossover in hu redundant?

guess most of the time the one that is going to be redundant is the amps' crossover...

you'll probably use the component set's passive crossover assuming you're gonna have a passive setup.

active setups are a lot more costly and harder to tune

Cannot say like that ma, sound is very subjective. smile.gif

Active sound is more dynamic, passive sound more lay back... Different setup to enjoy.

I'm leaning towards passive more, please don't flame me.

active setup has no advantage over passive setup and vice versa...

take it this way...

when you have a active setup, after you have done the tuning what will you do?

then think again that if you have a passive setup...

availability to do "customised" tuning doesnt mean its better better because you are able to do tuning on every track, one after another... because active setup, once done tuning means all tracks sounds equally the best the system could do. smile.gif

pretty much.

and i personally lean towards passive setup for potentially lot less cost, and definitely a lot less headache smile.gif
