Added on March 28, 2012, 8:23 amtoday tips: i would like to share today cost for indon worker. Indon worker normally call daily work as 'Kong'. So for today cost, one Kong abour RM70-RM80 per Kong per day. For supervisor rate, the Kong rate is RM90-RM100 per day.

Normall working hours is 8 am to 5 pm. Normally, contractor give overtime if working after 5 pm.

Therefore, reno cost nowadays is expensive, compare to 5 years ago, the Kong rate is only RM50.

today tips:

please ensure that the space between roof trust frame is not more than 4 fts, this to ensure that the roof trust is strong enough to support your heavy roof tile.

Attached Image

pic below is my neighbour contractor using small wood for truss, i suppose 2x4 inches. If want better, use 3x5 inches. The disadvantage of wood is termite and wood after years..it will bend.

Added on March 29, 2012, 11:08 amAnother tip:

to avoid any crack after plaster, please wet your wall before apply the cement for plaster. The brick has the strong ability to absorb water, thereofore if you do not wet the brick, it will absorb the water from your plaster cement, cause the your cement plaster premature dry , not normal dry.

These also apply when, cement the 'rabung' for roof. Please cement your 'rabung' not during high sun eg in noon.

TQ

What kind of shape is the metal roof trust frame? I beam, c shape etc.

Are there strong enough to walk on it at least?

Do you need to ground the frame?

Do this frame stand against the rust?

How is the cost compare to wood frame?

Let me elaborate about this steel trust (kekuda). The steel trust is new to malaysia and to most contractors, not many contractor know how to install these steel trust. The difficulty in technique to assemble and joint between steel is the main reason, but if already expert or experience no problem. To the beginner, to install the steel they hv to assemble on the ground and lifted to the upper beam, lifted the frame is difficult job but with experience, they can install on the upper beam itself. The steel trust C type, to make is stronger, they must clamp together.

Yes, they are very very strong..when they are clamp together and joint compared to wood. As picture above. They do not bend over time as compared to wood, for wood you will see that your roof will 'melengkung or melendut' over time.

Do you need to ground the frame?
Certainly. You have ground it to upper beam.

Do this frame stand against the rust?
Yes, they are Galvanized to protect from rust

How is the cost compare to wood frame?
The overall cost is abit higher compared to wood, but it is one time investment, long lasting forever compared to wood.
The cost of per piece is not expensive around RM32 compared to wood but they must clamp together consisted of 2,3 piece to become one.
They are joint together using GI screw and if you were to buy loose, the screw cost RM0.08, but if per boxes more cheaper. Every joint between steel at least minimum 3 screw else afraid not strong enough.

Thanks for your answer.

From the picture I see, all the frame is using c type. I thaught the main is I beam and the rest is c type.

The joint is strong enough ? I see before those joint have a steel plate to joint together. Like a triangle plate.

From the picture, what is the cost for the metal frame roof?
