I booked with Namsan Guesthouse not hotel. From the review, Namsan is quite ok. The staff can speak English. But I will update from time to timeĀ  icon_rolleyes.gif

Just got back from Seoul biggrin.gif i stayed 7 nights in this guest house. IMO, it's just great for a cheap and nice place to stay. It's clean, receptionist is friendly, my gf said they are handsome bunch. LOL. But get ready for their ultimate small toilet. you can barely move when u bathe and dump biggrin.gif You must wait 20 minutes after a person showers to take yours because their water heater system needs time to boil the water.

Anyway, the weather is getting hotter day by day. Night is still cold though, less than 10 Celsius consistently. Had the best adventure and also an eye opener to me and my friends. What happen was (in short summary);

1. I walked out of the train and realized i left my bag at the compartment above the seat. A little too late since the doors are closed and left! Thanks to two very pretty girl who works in the train station helped me to track the bag, within less than 20 minutes, their colleague at the next 3 stations managed to find it and sends it back over. SUPER EFFICIENT!! She even told me do not worry about it, go sight seeing first and later come back to take the bag (which i did), kept telling me the bag is in safe hands.

2. My friend lost his camera while taking a cab from Nami Island port to Gapyeong MRT station, only realized it went missing when we reached Hyehwa (1 hour and 45 minutes away) ! Lost hope on it though, but end up decided to make a police report. Made a police report there, end up 6 of them helped him to track down the cab driver (thankfully we managed to remember the cab's number plate). And then TaddAAAaa, They found the cab driver in 30 minutes time! Also arranged for us to meet up with the driver. So my friend agreed to pay the driver W100,000 (about RM 280.00) to send it to us at the police station in an hour time. Within 2 and a half hours he got back his camera biggrin.gif haha...SUPER EFFICIENT AND UNBELIEVABLE!

As for me i lost (almost) 3 things during my trip to Seoul;

1. My bag as mentioned above.
2. My umbrella, left it at Jamsil.
3. My gf doh.gif , she left with the train without me. Luckily we managed to SMS or else i sure kena hamtam kau kau by her liao.

Overall, had a lot of fun there. Didn't buy things though because very expensive ler.

p/s: Free and Easy is the way to go guys! Oh yah, found out most phones can be use there as long as u have 3G function. Off your data but ON 3G service you're good to go. smile.gif

QUOTE(Leon|| @ Apr 18 2012, 11:44 AM)
Going to Korea for 7 days on 1st of November with my GF..
Currently considering taking package with 12fly..

12fly provided 7days package only if going to Jeju island..
Is Jeju island worth or a must to pay a visit? What's special around there?
I doesn't really want to go Jeju and considering to grab 5 days 4 nights package to Korea..
Then the balance of the days travel by self hanging around at Seoul with GF, by the time reach to airport will be easier..

Or will it be better if skip taking the tour, travel self with GF by taking train/cab?

Please advice me...  icon_question.gif

My personal experience, i don't really like to take tour. Wasting time, the food they provide sucks, stops at stores/tourist shops and no freedom in terms of timing plus only limited of time you can spend in a place. Also, they will bring you to unnecessary place to visit. Up to you though coz you don't need to worry on the hotel and transport since they can provide for u biggrin.gif If you and your gf don't mind walking and taking trains a alot, i suggest you go free and easy in Seoul. You can go Jeju Island if you want to sight seeing. Maximum 2 days there bored liao. I've spent 7 nights in Seoul still now enough for me tongue.gif

The train, cab and bus are very convenient. I took the train a lot. You have plenty of time to do some research on where to stay (book a guest house for cheaper stay, clean and nice as well), where to go (everywhere are easily to go with their subways) and what to eat! (which the tours do not bring you to).

on 3G oni can surf the net ??
no charge ar ??  rclxub.gif

On 3G you can roam only. Off your data and just ON you mobile network with 3G service. Then you're able to call or SMS. Most phones when they Off the data they will automatically go into 2G network instead of 3G. Surf net you can use Wifi

Can I just ask you abt international roaming. I am using Nokia HP. Nothing fancy. No 3G whatsoever. Can I use this phone in Korea for international calls or sms to Malaysia?? I am using Celcom. I don't want to surfing internet whatsoever. I can do it in the guesthouse. I just need to call or sms my family in Malaysia.

I don't think it works with normal phone without 3G, yours should be 2G phone. I also don't know why sweat.gif But the guesthouse do provide free internet (2 pcs in the kitchen), free skype and wifi. I suggest you bring one that supports 3G network.

Whole trip, including accommodation + flight (RM680.00 AirAsia, i bought last year coz got promo) + expenses, around RM 2,400.00 total for 8 days and 7 nights! haha...and i did not shop for anything, expensive leh, for guys nothing much to buy lar...for girls okay la...expensive but worth it according to my gf because the quality is really good. Cheap or not i leave it to u guys to decide biggrin.gif

The main problem would be the communication issue and will travel with GF, otherwise would consider travel by self without follow tour group..
How do you came though with the communication issue? Or because of Seoul is the main city so there might have some Korean people speak English? hmm.gif

Does this tour package look fine to you?
What's your comment with their arrangement?
Not consider to take Jeju Island package, I'll have 1-2days free time to walk around the Seoul city since I also doesn't really like to follow tour group..
Love to walk around the city  laugh.gif

Don't worry, most of the restaurants they can speak mandarin. Some even basic English. Like what Stimix said, their subways and directions/maps are written in english and chinese also. Do remember to take your hotel card just in case you need to travel back to the hotel by cab. It'll be easier. And if happens that you've met non chinese/english speakers, just learn some basic korean words, hi, bye, pork, chicken, thanks, beef, fish, vege biggrin.gif

As for the package, i think its a bit tiring considering you have to change hotel and travel quite far. Mt. Sorak is quite far from the city. Everland you'd probably spend at least half a day there already. Day 4 a lot of shopping at their "compulsory" outlets which is wasting time. 1 hour in Myeongdong is definitely not enough! I personally don't like to walk around Dongdaemun, so to my friends as well. very crowded and not nice to shop. Just like Sg. Wang. I still think you should go free and easy to enjoy the flexibility and adventure around the city by your own. That way you have more freedom and also maximize your holiday value and experience (see more things, eat their local food which tour does not provide, travel around their suburb areas and meet more people).

RM 2,4000 per person?? does it include Jeju?? or only Seoul city?? accommodation is those guesthse n nt hotel rite? is food expensive over there?

i kno some korean sounds like mandarin.. hw bout speak canto there? tongue.gif

RM 2,400.00 for me. My gf spent more than that because she shops. Only is Seoul city itself smile.gif I stayed in Namsan Guesthouse 3, recommended thumbup.gif Book in advance so you can get a cheaper rate. Mine was around RM 155.00 per night for two person. Average about RM 20-40 per meal per person, depending what you eat though. A normal sandwich or toast sandwich for our breakfast already cost us RM16-18 per person biggrin.gif. Go there don't save on food ler, eat only. Try whatever that they can offer. Money can find later biggrin.gif I spent all on their food, especially streets food, barbeque and etc. Shopping, mehh...expensive and not necessary (if you're a girl different lah, they will spend on cosmetics). Enjoy food and sight seeing more value thumbup.gif

That's very weird because the same handphone I use when I travel everywhere including Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Macau,Jeddah, Madinah & Mekah. Why not working in Korea?? Very funny ler  rclxub.gif
*
Yeah, of all countries i've been to also no prob but Korea seems to be a bit different i don't know why also. I could be wrong but as what we experience is that we need 3G network then it'll be fine.

ic. thx alot.. so if going to Jeju the price will be more expensive due to haf to sit domestic flight.

in ur opinion, do u think Lotte World n Everland is worth to pay a visit? it's like those Disneyland or jz normal amusement park? better 2 go on spring or autumn season? really in dilemma tongue.gif cz i like to c d flower blossom n oso the feel of leaf fall lolz

oh yea ur Namsan Guesthouse 3 is nt same as Namsan 1 & 2? gt any different? sorry if i'm asking too much cz i wanna plan properly b4 going.. dun wanna end up a mess later
*
i like Everland actually, its beautiful. Much better than HK's Oceon Park. It's their version of Disneyland tongue.gif. Walk around during Spring will be good because of the cold and chill weather. Autumn i'm not too sure. But every season they will have different theme. You can check for more info on their website EVERLAND. They have all sorts of info there. Print the discount coupon from this website for a cheaper price ticket smile.gif

Namsan 3 is a new building, 2 and 1 are old ones but in terms of room space is slightly bigger. 3 is new with more rooms available. No worries you can PM me i'll try to help as much as i could smile.gif

Stories from friends, visiting Korea during winter also nice. But it depends on you and your bf. The weather is too cold and most of the time you have to stay indoor due the cold weather. I cannot tahan winter and I learned from my trip to China during winter. My friends told me it was too cold until she felt her flesh was shredded by the wind. Not to forget layer of clothing. So it depends on the individual preference.
*
Not to mention, it is really hard to travel around during winter. Everything on your body is heavy biggrin.gif A few layers of clothings, Jackets, travel bags, water.

Any1 here stay in Namsan 3 guesthouse before? Or should i look for others guesthouse? sad.gif

for me Namsan 3 is good enough. It's small but clean, cheap and good for sleep thumbup.gif I gotta warn you on their bathroom. It is super small. But heck, you just need a place to sleep. And their location is super good for that price.

Small bathroom not an issue for us smile.gif

They only accept booking before 3months from the date of arriving, still too early for me. But wonder why Namsan 1 and 2 been fully booked d...

Slightly bigger than Namsan 3 and few types of rooms in Namsan 1 and 2. Plus 1 and 2 only have very little rooms. Namsan 3 is new with lift and many rooms so you don't need to carry up and down your luggage. And best part of this Guesthouse is that no deposit required. Full payment (cash or credit card) upon check-in.
