Not really. I found out that perfume in Migliore Myeongdong is cheaper than their duty free shop. Overall clothing in Korea is not cheap even for Made in Korea brand. Their sales assistant does not matter in Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Namdaemun are nice and very helpful. We were shock when the sales assistant in one of the shoe shop in Myeongdong helped my sister to put on the shoes to try it. You know, like we always see in the drama. So happened that guy is good looking and my sister was so perasan tongue.gif The guy asked us where are we from and we replied Malaysia. He patted my sis shoulder and said, beautiful, beautiful laugh.gif The next evening, we went to the same shop and my another sister bought a pair of shoes. My niece recorded in her handphone the whole event and we returned to the guesthouse giggling looking at the drama laugh.gif BTW, the name of the shop is T A Store.

I also exprience good service in Myeongdong when I bought mask and cosmetic stuff. In Ehwa University, they sales man from the shop also very helpful and speak fluent English. In Dongdaemun, the unni manning the shop was very friendly and joke around with us even though she didn't speak English. We were like chicken and duck and finally gave me good discount after I told her, unni is pretty and nice. I will come again to this shop thumbup.gif

Yes, you may add a little bit of money and stay in another hotel. However, I think, Namdaemun area guesthouse is not bad. Most Malaysian stay in this area too. Hongdae area is another one you can give a 2nd thought.

Dongdaemun close at 11pm but not all shop are open for normal customer. Most are open for wholesaler. So you need to double check. I only went there twice but during day time not nite time.

BTW, don't buy any clothing in Namdaemun. Overprice and not good quality. In Namdaemun, I found 1 white blouse I like and the seller sell for KRW25,000. She didn't want to give discount, not even KRW1000. So we left. In Dongdaemun, I found the same white blouse for KRW25,000 with better quality. The lady give me KRW5000 discount. Namdaemun is like Petaling Street. The only good about this market is souvenir and good quality brooch, bangles, bracelet and others accessories.

Thanks for the advice! That is exactly my concern upon reaching seoul from incheon airport where we have to bypass the tunnel.. go up and down, walk up hill to reach the hotel.
As far as I know Myeong Dong is not the best shopping area as sales assistants there are not as friendly as Dongdaemun and the prices are higher than Dongdaemun with similar goods.

It's kind of a hassle to look for a decent motel/Inn/guesthouse in seoul with good location and reasonable price.
I chose Namsan 3 in the first place because the price WAS consider OK... RM140/night and I didn't mind about dragging the luggage all the way from Sejong hotel..
But come to think about it.. with RM180, probably I can top up a lil' bit more and get to stay at a much more better place right?

Please advice which area are as convenient as Namsan Guesthouse... around Euroji (interchange station)? DongDaemun (as it opens till late)?

From what I observed, guesthouses mostly located uphill or slightly behind the main road/subway. Hotels like Sejong, Sky Park, Pacific, Prince are the one right at the main road. I don't how much the hotel cost but my guess, much higher than the guesthouses. Even if you book with Resident EO guesthouse or Seoul Tower Ville Guesthouse, the situation is the same. Walking up hill dragging our luggage from the main subway/road. That's why on my next visit, I will just stay in normal hotel instead of guesthouse. However, that's only my personal opinion. Maybe customer who stay in Dongdaemun, Hongdae or other area experience better situation.

QUOTE(anilin @ Apr 29 2012, 12:25 PM)
Meaning that staying near to Myeongdong is still a good choice... maybe everyone experienced different situation in seoul =P
By the way... are there many motels or Inns around in the town itself? I mean in shoplot kinds, and near to the subway station?
As I know mostly Guesthouse like Namsan is centered in sorta residential area? correct me.

I doubt you can get hotel with RM200 plus in Seoul. Similarly to Hong Kong, Seoul is an expensive city.

BTW, tips for shoppping in Korea. Pls ask how much is the item before you decide to buy. The seller doing tricky tactic. What they display not neccessarily the price of the item. The display price sometimes is only for certain item. For example, they hang different colours and range of handbag together and put the price let say KRW30,000. Then big 30% discount next to the price. When you pick one of the bag, they will tell you that beg is not valid for the discount. The discount is only for 1 range type of bag only. Happened to me once and from that moment, I will ask how much is the price before I decide to buy it. What I found very funny was, how can they display the whole range of bag with 1 signage on 30% when the discount is only for 1 stupid type of handbag?

In Migliore, I saw rack of tops (probably around 20-30 tops in a row) with signage price is KRW8000 per top. I picked 1 top among all and asked how much. Turn out the price is KRW10,000. Sometimes they put another spagetti strap inside the top on the display and put the price as KRW6900. Turn out that they sell it separately. The top and spagetti strap. So you must add in the price for the spagetti strap inside. The outside top is KRW6900 and the spagetti strap is another KRW5000. So pls double chk the price before you decide to buy.

QUOTE(anilin @ Apr 29 2012, 12:44 PM)
yeah.. that's exactly what am i picturing now, dragging luggage uphill and walking in quiet roads...

Hope someone can recommend any nice motels/inns (RM200+-) which is in the town city itself, like those situated right in the center of bukit bintang and near to subway... wonder got such a deal or not

Namsan 3 & 2 next building to each other. Namsan 3 got lift. Namsan 2 doesn't have. The reason why most people choose Namsan 2 because the reception and the room on the same level. If you stay in Namsan 1 or 3, you still need to go to Namsan 2 for chk in. I will choose Namsan 3 of course because got lift. When I make the reservation I didn't have an idea of the location of all Namsans. Now, I already know biggrin.gif

QUOTE(AngelLingLing @ May 2 2012, 11:11 AM)
actually namsan 2 and 3 is side by side right? and namsan 2 have no lift but namsan 3 have? beside that namsan 3 price a bit higher? im still considering which one i ant to book... why most of the ppl choose namsan 2...
*

Added on May 2, 2012, 11:18 amI really dunno ler. They told me still got room and why are they telling you no more room. I guess you have to settle with Namsan 3 then.

QUOTE(leonghan @ May 2 2012, 11:04 AM)
i sent reservation mail to them but same reply i received from them again....Namsan 1 and 2 dont have any vacant room at the moment, ask me book via Namsan 3..

Added on May 2, 2012, 11:26 amFrom Migliore Myeongdong. Actually the whole shop in the building got sale but I can't remember how much. Maybe 20-30% off. The beauty shop I bought those perfumes also sell cosmetic and skin care. Not as cheap as in Hong Kong but at least cheaper than in Malaysia biggrin.gif

I guess most countries stuff Made in China. The only different is quality. Like my Adidas shoes also Made In China biggrin.gif Labour costs are cheaper in China?

I suspect that too. But when I asked the guys & girls from Namsan Guesthouse on the operating hours for Dongaemun, most of them said closed at 11pm. I do not want to take the risk going there at midnite and couldn' shop anything. That's why I didn't go later than 11pm.

I would choose SkyPark or Prince hotel in the future. The hotel rates for these hotels almost the same like in Hong Kong. I paid RM550 per room/nite in Benito hotel in HK. But if they build the cross walk from Sejong hotel to the other side of the road leading to Namsan, I will definitely stay in Namsan Guesthouse. The boys from Namsan told me the local council start thinking to build the cross walk so that pedestrian doesn't have to cross by the underground walkway anymore.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 1 2012, 10:44 PM)
May i know where did you buy all these ? Their department stores like Lotte/Shinsegae ?
I was told that most shoes and bags are made in China but designed by Korean companies, thus bearing Korean labels. All the uncles/auties said if it is all made in Korea, then the price cannot be that cheap already due to the high wages in South Korea.
Actually, Dongdaemun opens round the clock (almost). If you are going after those bargain clothes, then you have to go there at night. There are like 8 or 9 really big shopping centres that open only at 8pm to 6am (no kidding!) and you can get clothes, bags at a bargain there   biggrin.gif
Skypark is in the region of RM400/night, depending on season. Higher end hotels such as The Plaza and Sheraton Seoul D Cube City is around RM700/night and i highly recommend Sheraton Seoul D Cube City. It's a bit far from the city centre but it is totally worth it. Another Mod, Hye has stayed there before and he highly recommends this place too   thumbup.gif

I don't like kimchi. But I still eat it when they serve. This is out of respect.

QUOTE(AngelLingLing @ May 2 2012, 12:42 PM)
yea lor.. everyone is different, it is like kimchi is famous in their country but someone dislike/couldn't take it the someone have to take it because of their culture?.... so i dont see any problem that if the person already feel not comfortable to sleep on floor.. then still have to sleep on it. And i mention i experience it before and i dislike it, nothing to do with youngsters being pampered or what

I went inside to Migliore by coincident also. I was waiting for my sisters at the Exit 7 Line 4 station. Infront of Uniqlo. It was too cold and around 820pm. I go jalan2 inside to warm up. I saw the perfume/cosmetic shop and just look around. Then I saw the price. My eyes grow bigger already. So quickly sapu my favourite & hubby favourite's perfumes. Total RM481.98 for 1 bottle Tommy Hilfiger (100 ml), 1 bottle CK1 (100 ml), 1 bottle Tommy Girl (100 ml) & 1 bottle Hugo Boss for Women (30ml). I used credit card to pay. I call the bank yesterday to chk ow much after convert from KRW174,000.

I saw many so so quality China made stuff in Jln Pudu. But most of the stuff in Korea are better quality Made in China. biggrin.gif

Ya lor!! When I read your post, I was very upset. I mean, how can a local doesn't now the opreating hours for famous shopping mall in Seoul?? I felt very rugi ler.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 2 2012, 03:20 PM)
Thanks. I wasn't aware of this. Gotta go into Migliore Myeongdong next time i go to Seoul   biggrin.gif

Pretty much everything is Made in China nowadays. It just depends on how much those big companies are willing to pay to those factories in China. If they pay peanut for their products, then the quality won't be good. Anyway, pretty much all Nike and Adidas shoes are all Made in China. And yes, labor costs are so cheap in China rural areas. So cheap that most people probably won't believe it   sweat.gif

Aiyo. You were given the wrong information. I was in Seoul two weeks ago and i went to Dongdaemun for the very first time. I did not go to Dongdaemun when i was in Seoul last year. I got to Dongdaemun around 4.30pm and there were many really big and long shopping centres but all were closed. Street vendors were packing everything and ready to go home. I was so puzzled because according to various websites, Dongdaemun is supposed to be very crowded at night.

So, i went into a tourist information centre in Dongdaemun and i was told by the super nice officer on duty that those bargain shopping centres will only open at 8pm. And a new bunch of street vendors will come out at 10pm. One of a kind indeed   biggrin.gif

Nothing to shout about on Disneyland HK. I wasted my RM150. I only spent 2 hours there and left. The place is really very kiddy-ish.

QUOTE(Shazzac @ May 5 2012, 11:52 AM)
I've never been to Disneyland HK but perhaps all Disneylands are the same?? But DisneySea in Tokyo is totally different, it's one of a kind in the world as there is only 1 DisneySea. I don't feel that it's very 'kiddy-ish'. However, I do hear ppl telling me that HK Disneyland is not as great as the other Disneylands.

The animal part of Everland is just 1 park. The animals look really sad though when I was on the Safari..... Sigh...
