yesterday i just changed my phone socket/wall jack (c/w red light).. i dunno wat is this called bcos after tmnut upgraded to 1024/512, i always get dc.
so now my SNR margin increase. b4 was 8-14db, now can get 20-26db.

i asked my wireman, he is doing alarm, autogate system. He adviced me to change the phone socket which no "red light" will be better. cos the light will eat some current, so may cause ur snr lower.

And, telephone line, the grey color copper line, try to use alarm cable to replace the copper line.

I am using cat5 to replace it, but the line attenuation is the same, but SNR margin increase by 1 or 2 db.

I also think of changing the wire(black color) from the telehone tiang behind ur house which has a network interface installed, but they said is illegal....

so wat is the solution to decrease the line attenuation rate?

Edit: After tmnut upgrade to 1024/512, I only get 60.*.*.* ip range.... blink.gif

Erm.... long or short of wire is won't work for my case, even using CAT5 cable which connected at distance only 5 meters. It cannot decrease by 5-10db.

My house was 29 years old, so the cabling all faulty. Maybe will call up telekom to replace the new cabling, ofcos costly. sad.gif

reeyon,
How about using a shorter telephone wire from the wall plug to your modem?  smile.gif
*
for ur info, mengsuan..... the length of the telephone wire will not affect the speed.
Even i put the modem beside the wall socket also no use. So i think the problem is not the length of wire. smile.gif

As to what I know, your attenuation and SNR margin is affected by your telephone line but not much by the ethernet cable. Therefore, if you wish to gain speed in referral to SNR margin and attenuation, it will be the telephone cable which matters. But since you've tried it and it does not help, changing the ethernet wouldn't help too. smile.gif Just my 2 cents

The basis diagram like this:

Network Interface(Tiang behind ur house) > Black wire > telephone wire > phone socket(with red light) > splitter > RJ11 > Router > CAT5 > Computer.

My change was like this:

Network Interface(Tiang behind ur house) > Black wire > CAT5 > phone socket(without redlight) > splitter > RJ11 > Router > CAT5 > Computer.

So from this senario, my line attenuation rate is the same, but SNR margin was increased by 10dB.

CALL is wasting time/money. You can get the contractor number and negotiate with him for the new cabling cost.

Never face any disconnection? Your telephone cable maybe faulty. Too high of attenuation.

should i keep making complaints n report till i had above 10 or something?

my line still blinks heavily when i play games..

Buy a new phone socket and replace the old 1. May increase a bit.
Or else, call 100 , to have new cabling to ur modem.

don't rely on the TM workers, just like u called up 1800 CS, they asked to bypass splitters, on-off modem, reset IE setting defaults, this and that those useless procedures.

try contact with sub contractor of TM, they may do well job, and pay a little bucks for re-wiring.

I've wrote a couple email to TM support center, and i get ignored. They choose to keep quiet.
