Just to share some info here and one possible action you can request to do..
This quote is taken from a Sabah based forum .. QUOTE(ribut @ Apr 24 2006, 04:24 PM, post='352') Just want to share some info with you guys.. and later ...Streamyx has just installed an RDLAM (Remote DSLAM) which is basically a box post mounted DSLAM just 200m from my house at Sri Kepayan and my SNR margin which was around 0-7 db has jumped up to a very nice 33.5db and the attenuation which was previously a high 60-63db has miraculously dropped to 0db.. haha.. it's like being next door to the central dslam itself.. Anyway my dl speed is still capped at 512kb/s but the attainable speed(from my modem stas page) show an incredible 12384kb/s (12Mb/s).. Hopefully it'll solve my frequent dc which happens daily especially around 5pm-9pm and sporadically at other times.. Those guys having the same problems as me (low SNR high Attenuation) can probably take notice and request to have a RDSLAM installed.. If anyone's interested I'll update after a weeks or so if the low SNR reduces any more dc's QUOTE(ribut @ Apr 28 2006, 09:10 AM, post='372') Update on my connection this might be a solution to some of you out there..------------------------------ Since the time the tmnet/telekom installed the RDslam actually he switched my line from the cabinet and jumpered it direct to the RDslam, what it actually does is instead of the signal travelling from my house(in Sri Kepayan) to the DSLAM at telekom exhange (which is at Secretariat or near Sacred Heart Church) which should be around the 5KM limit (thanks to Strace for pointing this out) and causes the weak signal (Low SNR High Attenuation), it's now only 200m from the pole RDslam.. I have had not one disconnection and my computer is on 24/7 downloading whatever tvb drama my wife watches.. So it's good news for me.. To Rashomon666 -------------------- I've not experienced any slowdown for bittorrent dl except a few weeks back when my ping skyrocketted from the low 50's to around 3k.. I checked with the low yat forums and it was the same for the whole east malaysia, Streamyx has officially denied traffic shaping and I believe them.. The low dl speed is probably more to the low number of seeds and congested gateways both local and international.. Changing torrent s with a higher number of seeds/peers would probably improve the DL.. You might ask the same Telekom technician to do your internal wiring cause if it's only a single phone outlet it's just a half hour job and he's going over to your place anyway.... He might charge you rm50 but getting another person to do might cost you more as they'll have to factor transportation time/cost into the bill.. to kill_me_plz ---------------- I wouldn't know if the RDSlam is expensive or not.. but seriously I've been calling the 1300 number every two week since I got streamyx installed because of the disconnections .. I've also made at least one call a month to the 100 number saying that my modem can't sync.. I bought 3 different modem all because of the stupid technicians advice.. till i think they know my house and name and they usually just jumper my line around.. which solves the problem temporarily.. It's always disconnected at 6pm till 9pm and sometimes till 11pm which is the time i want to use it most.. So very frustrating.. In the end they gave me an RDslam connection.. lol.. really totally stopped the disconnections problems.. So if you guys are having the same connection problems, enquire what's the distance(in KM) the Dslam you're connected to and if it's 5KM or more then you're in deep s.h.i.t. (why is it everytime I try to type "s.h.i.t", it becomes sweet? kinda changes the color of my post) with regards to stable connection.. Try asking them the nearest RDSLAM around your area and get them to jumper your line to there.. |
