Hi

I need some advice. Lately I had problems with my streamyx. Each time, someone calls in and we pick up the phone, I either get disconnected or the download just went 0. Previously, I don't face such problems. Anyway, here is my modem data

Data Rate DS 1024 US 384
Noise Margin DS 16.9 US 16
Output Power DS 17.1 US 12.1
Attenuation DS 63 US 31.5

Appreciate if you could help me.

Thank you.

Check your micro filter. I suspect it to be faulty.

Thanks for your fast reply, hardyboyz888

If you dont mind me asking what is a micro filter? What I have is a belkin ADSL router modem and my telephone and modem lines are connected to Belkin Surge Master.

Hope this would help you.

Thank You.

Ahh thanks JerryLim.

In this case, I use the Belkin Surge Master as my micro filter but the funny thing is before the earthquake, I dont have the problem of dc. It's after the earthquake, my line is unstable plus the disconnection. But I might be wrong.

Added on January 30, 2007, 7:49 amJust now I try to check the phone line by calling my house and picking up the phone for 1 min but didn't see any disconnection or timeout on my download. Maybe its not the peak time coz the problem normally occur during the peak time ie late morning or evenings/nights. Any suggestions? Sorry for my ignorance.

u should refer for the first post

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding

The thing is I don't see any problems with your SNR margin as it is above average and requirements to maintain a connection. My SNR margin is lower than yours with the DS/US margin about 12-13 but still no problems. I'd say you contact TMNet first.

From the value i got above compared to the one written in the first page, i scored outstanding for both SNR and attenuation, but still, line disconnect every few hours and sometime i even get some weird ass IP starting with 124.

even my router would restart for no reason sometime.

any idea?

and oh yea, the 2Mbps downlink scored average of 1.4 to 1.5Mbps in jaring speed test and 1.2Mbps in streamyx one. Happy since i'm only subscribing a 1Mbps line. But Upstream i only get 200 to 250k in average...

and out of topic, i noticed an option of "experimental 8M" in the drop down list in TMnet's speedometer cool2.gif
