I started working as a young graduate electrical engineer in 1983 in an engineering firm in Kuala Lumpur. My starting salary was RM1200 which was pretty typical in those days.
Present day graduates start their working life at RM1800 to RM2000 a month, not a lot of difference from 25 years ago but prices of everything have tripled and quadrupled.

not bad
but he forgets that back then how many people were graduates back then?
nowadays with so many colleges around, anyone can have a degree . the numbers of graduates has been tenfold or more? based on percentage of population of course
in the end what matters is yourself , degree nowadays is nothing more than just a "minimum requirement for a employment" equivalent to what SPM were back then
best example , in 1969 with SPM you get to become officer straight away (inspector)
in time..you need diploma to be Inspector , degree will make u become ASP
nowadays you need SPM (credit BM) just to become a private , and degree will only make you inspector

its not about how good you are, it is about how much better you are than other people
