This is my purely my view/speculation on the whole business model of Newegg Malaysia. So please take this as a grain of salt.

I think that Newegg Malaysia set up a company or have some kind of entity in California to purchase off from Newegg USA and then handles the export to Malaysia. (more like distributor retailer relationship). The reason could be that it is not in Newegg USA's business to handle international exports, and I doubt that they would change just to cater for international exports to Newegg Malaysia.
So when Newegg Malaysia or the entity in California purchased the items from Newegg USA, that's where the VAT comes in as the sales was transacted in California.

Again this is only my assumption.

Reseller/importer?

Dear Newegg Malaysia,
I notice that the price after VAT and shipment is way higher than those found in lowyat... Even with those free rebate of RM 100 the item is still more expensive than the one that is found on lowyat (put your garage sales link here ) If this continue to proceed, newegg malaysia will not be able to keep the competition with lowyat plaza. Lowyat has been here in malaysia for a long time. And in order to beat the prices in lowyat. Increase promotion and have mega rebates that will definitely win the heart of malaysia... Thank you =P

So I guess only rare stuff not available in Malaysia is worth to bring in.

THe 9% tax seems to be the sales tax they incur when a sale is made in the US (CA VAT = California Value Added Tax?)

It's impossible to expect a cheap price from them. They are just like one of the companies like cycom and sri computers. They do not manufacture their own hardwares. They could bring rare hardwares as some suggested but warranty will turn out to semi operational.
Unless they start taking in stocks locally which means the same story as operating as a local IT store.
