Hi all, just back from Oz and would like to upgrade my home network from 1 PC to 4 PCs (mix of wifi, cable needed)....

Just knew that there are lot of things to set up the modem for streamyx (sorry that i really noob in networking)

Any recommended all-in-one modem which is easy to setup for newbie? smile.gif

why not just go for Cisco? it makes life much easier

get a gigabit 24-port ethernet switch too for expandability

and a wi-fi antenna for tha oomph~

seriously dood,

if u r a total newbie, i'd sugget go for a all-in-one solution. saves u all the hassle to setup the router, switch, and bla bla bla...

and it will take up less space too

of coz, the downside is, one ur line kena lightning, everything goes poof!

but what's the odd of getting striked by one?

Well, I'm about to open a thread about all-in-one Modem/Router/Wifi combo but I guess might as well put my query here... If you don't mind.

I just wanna know if anyone can share their experience with all-in-one device... what models you use, how was the installation and the performance.

I also have a question about lightning threat to these products... we can protect our phone/internet line by bypassing it through lightning protected extension, right? Will it protect it completely...

Ginvin, based on UK broadband forums, for ease of use and features... take Linksys WAG54G v2.0 (RM480) or WAG354G (RM380)... both is available in M'sia, I think.

ok my experience in my All in one Donkey-Link 500G , once open the port for Bit Comet , u shall recieve thousands of Disconnect . It goes like this .. speed go to maximum , then drop to 0 , then maximum again . Heard some of the 500T also having this problem. All this happen becoz Donkey-Link 500G using useless VIKING CHIPSET vmad.gif but i have no complain on my ZTE831 , so now i rather use without router .

From DSL Modem, 4 port switch + wireless

If you are looking for for some higher end stuff, hehe...

Try DGL-4300
(Router only you still need a modem)
4x Gigabit Lan + Wireless lan + Easy going Gaming configuration...

Linksys is reportedly to be good

heck, Cisco owns Linksys, so u know it must be good

some other good brands may include, but not limited to:
1. LevelOne
2. 3 Com
3. SMC
4. D-Link

May i know what version is your router?
If it is not version 5, try flashing your firmware with this as i read it could help;

or try DD-WRT

Just make sure its not v5 or v4..if v4 , you need to flash a new frimware and then upgrade it..it has some ram protection thingy...I dont know what

Try port forawrding or get DD-WRT

the new DD-WRT offers new QoS...BT while gaming..(sorta)...it kinda reduces latency (the same thing..what DLINK high end router does..but its still new..and its sorta buggy)

No problem using my Prolink 9000W.

If you're planning for this, i think you should get the newer one. Mine is about few years old.
