Not sure if this has been put up before, but as a contribution - this is how you access the LX5 service mode to check shutter count and few other values.

1. Insert battery (common sense but need to list down this step too)
2. Set dial mode to P
3. Simultaneously press "Up arrow" AND "Video record red button", then power on, release all buttons.
4. Press "Left arrow" AND "Menu" AND "Video record red button"

You should now see a 3 column table, labeled 1-16 on the left most column. Those are the last 16 error codes detected.

5. Press "Left arrow" AND "Menu" AND "Video record red button" again.

Now you should see the CAMERA INFO, with firmware and few other variables, PWRCNT, SHTCNT, STBCNT, PSVCNT.

Below is not verified info but I believe these are the meanings:

PWRCNT: Number of times camera powered on
SHTCNT: Number of times shutter fired
STBCNT: Number of times flash fired
PSVCNT: Number of automatic shutdown (powersave mode)

For example on my unit, it's 3401 power ons, 6598 shutter fires, 210 flash fired - rarely use flash! smile.gif and 16 powersave shutdowns smile.gif

Hope this info helps.

Oh and btw, for the error codes, if there is nothing shown (all 0000) does not mean no problem before, very easy to reset that, just power on the camera and without shutting it down, remove the battery and it will clear the error memory smile.gif Not sure whether the shutter count can be reset or not though, hopefully not smile.gif

google is your friend smile.gif

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2396223,00.asp

"The S100 performed admirably in our speed tests. The camera takes 2.3 seconds to start up and grab a shot, and can capture another photo every half second in continuous shooting mode. Shutter lag measured at only 0.3 second, which is an excellent score for a camera that you can slide into your pocket. Other cameras in this class weren't able to match the S100's performance. The Panasonic LX5 comes closest—it starts a bit faster, grabbing the first shot in 1.9 seconds, but records a 0.5 second shutter lag and requires you to wait 1.4 seconds between shots."

i've used S95 before and LX5 with fw 2.0 is really fast. I didn't measure but based on feeling, I think LX5 is just a bit faster but both are equally fast (in the order of ms... not s)

thnx. That's good to know. But then again, i still cant decide which one to go. But since lx5 has come down in price, that's a good advantage too

got a couple of used LX5 for sale here in LYN.... do some search and see... I think it's a good deal to grab a good second hand unit, still under warranty too cause LX5 has been in market for quite a while now and probably due for a refresh since S95 also has been updated to S100 now...

yes i'm using one. very convenient esp if you are the type who hates to keep removing and replacing the lens cap. bought it from ebay, unbelievably cheap below RM15 incl shipping! smile.gif
