looking for a portable midi controller(keyboard style but with knobs).

my budget is about rm500. can i get a portable one(as i will be moving to kl to study in UTM this 1 july) with USB(to connect to my laptop) with a few knobs too. i'll be using it with reason3.0, which i am still quite new with.

hows the MK-425C, Oxygen8 and M-Audio O2 by m-audio? what are the main differences and are they within my range?

i also posted at http://forum.jamtank.com/viewtopic.php?t=6...0a5ec70c77cbf96

thanks

You mean softwares like VSTi??? There're loads of free ones on the net, no?
Plus, Audacity supports VST. wink.gif
Otherwise, get a copy of Computer Music magazine, they come with cool VSTs. biggrin.gif

Didn't you say the PCR-M30 is below GBP100?? Please tell me it is! tongue.gif

PCR-M30 cost 120GBP....

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...79/a/r/e/google

Ooo... I nvr tot net got so many... I tried some like tracktion b4.... so so only lo.... haha... dunno why.. I had a misconception of free things dun come good, good things dun come free...hahahahaha....

Besides, alittle out of cash lately...hahaha...

I'm new to computer music, basically I juz use it to edi the songs I composed... Last time I used something like cakewalk and finale.. hv to key in notes by notes.. and its not as accurate and its not the things I wanted.. so I tot of a midi controller would help me out, and I'm still looking for a nice and flexible software... I wan "alive" music, not dead spiritless music...

how about creative's midi cum pc keyboard? it is small & got many control buttons as well. but of course the keys are not full size. all other things are controlled via software which is pretty neat. just a suggestion tho, not sure it'll fit in your requirements...

thats kinda low end. not my thing. plus i am using a laptop for this(i live in a hostel here). those also dont have extra buttons, pitch control, etc. my budget is now about rm800. besides lowyat and times square are there any other places that sells things such as these?(went to both, both no stock)

i'm refering to the prodikeys model which has the pitch bend. costs about rm400. anyway since it doesn't fit your requirement, give it a miss then. have you tried real music instrument shop like bentley or music plaza? how about a full blown keyboard for around rm1000? again, just a suggestion... smile.gif

full blown keyboard will be quite troublesome coz as i said i am studying in kl and living in a hostel. i move around alot so i want something thats portable with my laptop too(and fits into my laptop backpack). the m-audio stuff looks really good just that i only know its distributed by a music shop(SMX if i m not mistaken) in times square and also brought in by midi specialist in lowyat.

talking about software, i bought OMB (one man band) on-line for USD30. it's really worth the money to me since you can find & download all kind of styles (especially yamaha) from all their models. then you can play the style "live" with your controller/keyboard just like normal keyboard. of course you can create your own styles too. so i don't hv to buy myself a new keyboard to be able to play all the latest styles.

check it out, man...

but the best 25key around(complete with knobs+faders) is novation x station (consider urself saving for a couple of months if u want something rock...goes well wit reason too)..the rest are like korg microkontrol and m-audios (evolution had join m-audio for quite sometime, decrease our choice) or u can even try a 49e with uc33, u'll get better control with less money...

i dont think they are producing the UC33 already...

anyway , do check out the M-Audio keystation pro88... lots of keys , lots of knobs , lots of possibilities... and it's weighted man...

It's not that portable but it's worth mentioning... smile.gif

yeah.. it works well as a trigger...

and try not to 'on' the velocity-feature on the software that you're using... this is because the prodikeys works in 3 stages of velocity. that means it's either soft , medium-hard , and hard...

that means less dynamics for you to play with...

but mine is the first generation of prodikeys... I dont know if the new ones have better sensitivity in terms of velocity or not..

Done some research on the net...i found that novation xstation should be pretty good. but do i really need something like that? some input please...hehe. oh btw...budget is somewhere around RM 1000
