Last time, Toyota and Honda were among the first mainstream manufacturers in Malaysia which offered new features such as dual airbags, abs+ebd, vtec or vvti, and electronic controlled transmission.

Don't you think that the good resale value that they enjoyed today was due to the fact that the older Toyota and Honda cars still have the relevant features which are now just started to be used by others especially the local brands?
*
it is more than just features mentioned.
long story cut short, resale value depends on either demand, or market confidence
since honda, toyota rarely sell high demand vehicles here thus great resale value must down to market confidence

market confidence born out of several key performance parameters. hard to crack, durability, easy to maintain, easy to repair, easiness to misuse (k20a haha). those features, especially the safety stuffs could contribute as well but we dont know for sure how people in the past value those airbags, abs, etc etc.

2.0S need kastam excise duty? First time i hear
*
excise duty exist for CKD vehicles and if my memory serves me well, for 2.0L car it is about ... 75%? 85%? the other is sales tax which is 10%

i dont know how the arrangement of excise duty to be paid before the car is put for sale. they should have cleared it when CIF value comes out and before the car deported to customers.

Agree, it will reduce but very slowly. Tax is a source of income for the cronies. !!!
I think it will take 5 - 10 yrs to gradually reduce price provided they dun retain power la.
I am really hoping there will be more Hybrid personal tax exemptions in the coming budget. But, still worry at Hybrid battery may Kong after year 5.
Anybody got any comments? =)
*
theres something called profit margin.
thats bigger headache. and not be controlled by government of the day.
there is a formula calculating car prices in malaysia. if u care enough to google around, theres an argument about persona and city, which belongs to similar tax bracket, having sticker otr price difference of nearly 50k RM.

so if u are to reduce the tax, there is no stopping for profit margin to be increased. what we need might be a law to bind the profit margin percentage i.e 20% - 30%. however that may violate free trading market somehow.

dont worry. petrol price is always going up. unless they try to clone the atoms and the bonds in the chemical that built fuel. thats phd thesis for you! hehe

the hybrids may take a while to set in into our peoples mind. and being CBU i dont think resale value is going to be a problem afterall. the build of CBU is pretty much sturdy and battery problem aside, it will be the one people go for in couple of years.

it is ppl's perception on hybrid cars. =)
*
to be perfectly honest with you, hybrid does not really save money
there was a calculation which i cant find it again over the internet, about fuel saving using a hybrid and whether that does justify the need to pay a bit premium over a regular vehicle

but it is becoming a trend these days to own a hybrid. which is fine to me. u save some money (people say not really but there must be some saving no matter how small it is) u trying to save the mother earth, u are educating your generations/ peers on the importance of driving a hybrid. those are all PLUS points. and hybrids look quite good in everyday life. slap on good bodykits and rims, it is going to be stunning to look at.

in malaysia there is only one case, big case regarding the battery in honda vehicle. specifically the one coupled in an IMA system. you know the story, right. but that case went big NOT because of a faulty battery, because both party didnt want to budge although big compromise by honda malaysia to replace the faulty battery FOC. i dont know how to put it but the battery didnt explode or harmful, it just died for some reason we dont know till today.

i dont know why she rejected the offer and keep going to the tribunal. maybe she was pissed off big time. so there you are. they sold perhaps, in 5-10 thousands of hybrids since the last FD hybrid here in malaysia (including jazz, crz, and insight) and ONE case. so it is 1/5000.

the chances, my friend, are miniscule. very slim.

Mine 2.0s .. shows for 240 km travelling done .. Average 10.0km/l .. I ve drove fast, in the jam and cruise mode . all in ECON mode...
*
who is in the right mind to drive with the ECON button on???!!???? tongue.gif haha

i took delivery 4pm this afternoon. cant concentrate much on fuel efficiency or whatever. just drive slowly and very carefully to reach home. didnt take trunk road to avoid any stupid freak thing happening, instead direct highway. but insulation quite good. cud be the michelin or cabin insulation.

so far so good. what i got are 2 umbrellas one from honda the other from maybank, a soft head rest? with honda written on it. and ... oh i forgot what the other thing. they suppose to give me soft-cloth compartment which they say put in the boot? ah i dont know what is that. but not much freebies, then considering the personal discount he gave me then okay la. not even tinted voucher! hurrmmmm......

so now i need to learn how to protect white paint. some say wax first. some ask me to ready tar removal thing just in case u know the dirt at the bottom lids/body.

there will be many fingernail scratches on the handle. everybody wants to try magic door handleeee wuuuhhuuuuu

later my wife hentam me kuat kuat oso hahaha
anyway i'm still in dilemma whether to get the 1.8 or 2.0...due to budget constraint it will be 1.8
need opinion guys
*
i was in the same situation 2 weeks ago.
a 1.8 always the safest choice financially, and nearly 15k difference i thought what possibly could go wrong if i went for that. plus my thinking at that time was, i dont need this-that-this-that so on, and 1.8 should be allright.

until i went to see the exact vehicle.

at that moment i promise u my mind suddenly declared 1.8 is a no no for me. worse still, after that i sat in the hybrid. i was set on either hybrid or the 2.0. it cannot be the 1.8. it just tooooo plain for my liking and i cant help but to think the specs are too bare to justify committing myself to an over 100k car. if u cant commit just to an additional 210RM permonth, i strongly suggest u to add jussssttt an additional 70RM permonth for the hybrid.

of course the hybrid is something people quite uncomfortable with but with that price (i was hoping it is lower than 120k) u are better off with it.

Hm.... frankly speaking, since we have a RM97k 2.0 Forte with higher spec than this Civic, what is the reason u guys choose on Civic instead of Forte? Thanks for the sharing  =)
*
u should try drive both. the dynamics are different i was told. it cud be just different people different taste. plus we had enough of flaming in the past.

but if u got only 97k to spend on a car, u know your obvious choice.

Of course they replace the engine oil la.  doh.gif
*
i think he was referring to the first service at 1000km of which they fine tune this that. dont think any oil change or anything changed for that matter because the cost is only less than 30RM which is waived as well as one of the 6 free labour services

on fuel economy note,

to be honest i dont really check my milage or fuel consumption etc etc. i mean not in figures. my driving distances are pretty much routine. so i know what the appropriate ringgit cost per distance i drive. it is easy to realise something is wrong by just checking my petrol payments or refuelling intervals. and for the econ button? i never fail NOT to push it. haha.
the cruise control works well. so far so good the civic.

but it was stable when it reached above 130kmh..and the steering feel good....wind noise..cant hear really...and engine wise...still quite smooth when it was at 180...
*
u didnt really have this idea of engine run in period? i mean, we both got the car this week and u are already 180kmh? notworthy.gif haha

Is it normal to encounter problem with Excise Duty ? Now, it is solved but was told having problem with JPJ side ? Is that so ?  cry.gif
*
i am afraid it is true this excise duty thing. me had the same problem. two friends the same thing different place buy. i dont get it as well last time. i would have thought they clear the darn thing BEFORE they ship the car to one dealer or another
i was held back for nearly a week for that last time. but be patient sir, after they cleared the duty, then it just about registering with the jpj. all it take is 10 minutes key in this that sign this that. system okay, its all 10 minutes.

Added on August 3, 2012, 9:41 pmi felt the engine a bit warm even after 30-40 minutes the car parked. is this normal?
and in S mode, what the speed that engage the fourth gear automatically (without using the paddle shifter). last time the city needed 140kph to engage to fourth gear.

i dare not to try as i am patiently getting the engine to run in first.
