With the pay in Malaysia, I'll be stuck at home yum cha and gardening.
Working here in Singapore, I can fly every month for budget trip. Unless you call travelling = boring.

I think most ppl(especially those from KL) call Singapore a bore because they're away from the buddies and family, and they've yet to build up a new social life here.

To me life in Sg now is like how I just moved from Pg to KL. Things will get better soon.

Hi XinLing, I believe you can access to Maybank at all ATM5 ATM (ABN AMBO, Citibank, HSBC, Maybank, and Standard Chartered).

If you do read financial news, you should know that my company has just being put up for sale. If the acquisition completed, it'll be de-listed from the board. We're told not to panic. But who knows, I may be packing my bag in few months time. LOL

Certis Cisco acquired my ex-company in M'sia last time, booting all top management personnel. My last company acquired 2 small firms, whereby I was sent to study and take over their technical operation.

And now all my customers will become my cousins.

Live like king? If he's earning RM8K outside Klang Valley then perhaps yes.

Sgd8k is way above average Singapore population's earning. Some more in Singapore, no one has asked me to go back China, or Malaysia.

Public transport is good for saving money for the first few years of working. Many non-KL ppl working in KL couldn't save. Ppl see KL brats who lives in parent's house like how you see Sg young ppl driving papa's Toyota Wish to work.

I would rather ride a bicycle then riding motorcycle in Sg. Sg drivers are nuts.

You guys actually read STOMP?
Anyone buying insurance in Singapore? Such as those term life, capital guarantee, or savings type of insurance?

Am considering whether to "top up" Malaysian insurance, or buying one in Singapore.

Anyway, no perf bonus nor pay raise for me this year, although I've got my pro-rated 13th month salary. I guess it's fair enough since I started work last September.

Plus there's this famous stats saying that 30% of new business fail within the first 2 years. There goes your savings. And your life.

QUOTE(siberfriend @ Mar 15 2012, 01:41 PM)
lolx. good point. smile.gif

i dont think companies are following the salary survey by robert walters/kelly services/etc. they tend to give lower..

by the way, what is his base salary in KL?
*
Eh you missed the whole point of the salary report. It's the report following the company, not the other way round.

Edit: I notice a lot of ppl take pay cut in term of number when moving to Singapore. That's not healthy. You should at least aim for 1:1 unless you're overpaid in M'sia. I got 5% increase in number (before conversion) when moving to Singapore last Sept. Then I got pro-rated 13th month salary on Dec, CNY ang pao on Jan, pro-rated 3.7 months bonus on Feb, and 5% salary pay rise this year back dated to Jan 2012. Not bad for a guy who spend 1/4 year in Singapore goyang kaki in 1st month, receiving training the 2nd, celebrating Christmas and New Year the 3rd lol.

Don't spoil the market, people.

I tried call IRAS hotline but it's always busy (as expected).

I received SingPass today and login to IRAS web.

Hmm... I don't need to pay tax for year 2011? Or should I keep calling IRAS to verify? I started working in Sg Sept 2011.

If I click on "Begin e-Filing for YA 2012, it shows:

Do communicate. It's the right attitude, and the right way of working.
I received 25 emails from current employers BEFORE first day at work. I didn't count how many I sent.

First time taking bus to KL as in:
- you always drive?
- you always fly?
- you never travel back KL from Singapore?

Good luck if you're got hold up at custom. I've experienced not once but a few times the bus simply drove off because some passenger were too slow to board at custom.

If it takes causeway link then it's more troublesome. But usually Sg-KL from CBD takes 2nd link.

I suspect he call himself RMIT graduates by studying in private college with RMIT programme. Oh wait I don't think there's many private college available back then.

Anyway paper qualification doesn't mean anything at the age of 35.

The only paper work involved are:
- payable check to me.
- a service job report copy to client and myself, signed by both parties. (it also serves as payment receipt)

@extremepower
What if I received freelance job opportunity every 2 weeks? xD I've already being offered another project by the same client with target date in late May/early June.

The complaint my fellow Singapore has regarding NS:

- They have 2 years less income. If 3k a month, that's 72k in their life time.

- They don't like the idea of serving the country protecting the PRC and foreigners while they eat up their job.

Anyway, they're having 2 great years of fun and memories. Less zombie years in office.

Reckless driving and reckless pedestrian road crossing. I think the traffic accident rate (including rear-ended accident with no casualty) is way too high for a country that small and with limited vehicles on the road. It's more dangerous riding a motorbike in Singapore then anywhere in Malaysia.
